New Zealand in Australia Nov-Dec 2008 Feb 2009

Ahhh of course. Makes sense since Patel won't get any assistance in Australia. Good on the selectors for realizing that.
I think it's enough just to have an effect. You can get assistance from a pitch and still be crap at using it, while Harbhajan has been of importance in Australia without ever being devastating.

We shouldn't consider playing Elliott or Martin at all, both are too much of a liability against the Aussies. Fulton should come straight into the side rather than being kept as a reserve, he gives us a little bit more steel to our fragile top order. I just hope we pick anyone but Martin against the Aussie's cause he just has no idea how to bowl to any of Aussie batsman, and ends up always geting carted around the ground. Other than that the rest deserve to be there

My Ideal Team

How
Redmond
Ryder
Fulton
Taylor
Flynn
McCullum
Vettori
Mills
Southee
O'Brien

He does have a bad record, but it was long enough ago that another chance might be given. O'Brien doesn't have a better record and Gillespie will also be an unproven selection. One of them has to play, but the same problem is presented.

My eleven:

Redmond
How
Ryder
Taylor
Fulton
McCullum
Vettori
Mills
Southee
O'Brien
Martin

Flynn was poor in Bangladesh, couldn't convert starts. I'd consider dropping Mills because in tests he just doesn't do enough. I'd give Mills the tour match and if he was poor i'd add in a batsman probably. I feel we may need 5 specialist bowlers since we're missing Oram. His overs are hard to replace without adding a bowler.

Martin has to play for me, he's our most likely bowler to strike early and on Aussie pitches which bounce he has the most chance of getting the ball to come in and hit the Aussie's in the ribs/head.

EDIT: Fulton is staying in NZ to play for Canterbury (and Hopkins also for Otago) and will be flown over before the Brisbane test as cover. He's not going to be playing the warm-up or first test by the looks. Elliot is going to be in the eleven. (www.stuff.co.nz article is my source) So i'm guessing the team will be:

Redmond
How
Ryder
Taylor
McCullum
Flynn
Elliot
Vettori
Mills
O'Brien
Martin

Well I think we have our spinner for this tour now :) Would like to see Hilfy or Bollinger given a go in this series but I don't know how we are going to get them in. They certainly need to be given a go before the Ashes to see how they cope at the next level.

My team for the first test:

Katich
Hayden
Punter
Hussey
Clarke
Watson/Symonds
Lee
Krejza
Johnson
Clark

Not sure about about Watson/Symonds. If Watson make a big score in this match he deserves couple more games I guess. Personally I love to see Symo back in the team but he hasn't been scoring runs in domestic cricket. Can he just walk in to Int. cricket and perform even when hes out of form ?

Krejza has earned his spot in the team for this series. We should give him few games to see what he can do. If he fails , bring in Mcgain when fit.

Kiwis got a pretty young team. So we should still win this. But we can never underestimate the kiwis , they always lift against us.

I would pick Symmo anyday over Watson. In Tests,Symonds knock could have a huge impact on the outcome of any game.

I would give Krejza the summer to prove himself. Lets see how he goes on less helpful pitches.

From what I've heard of Roy he looks disinterested in the game still and his form hasn't been good enough to force his way back in. Watson has been handy with the ball, hes got the best seam position of any of our bowlers. His batting has been up and down, he will get another chance to show what he can do with the bat but I don't see him being dropped for this series at least.

Is Clarke fit? There was something about Watson being padded up ahead of him which made people wonder.

I'd consider dropping Clarke for Symonds, but I agree, i'd make him force his way back in instead of Watson. Aussies are strong with the bat, they need bowlers more, without Krejza looked ike it could have been 600 odd against India, which is why i'd keep Watson for this series.

Dropping Clarke or resting him?
Watson hasn't done enough with the bat to see him forcing Clarke out. Plus Clarke is vice captain and has a 100 in the 3rd test so can't see him being dropped any time soon. I suspect hes having problems with his back as didn't bowl. My crazy theory is he didn't want to be there at stumps given his record of surviving before close.

Dropping if he's not fit. So resting I guess. NZ aren't the toughest side they'll face so some time off to get it right would do him some good if there's any back problems.

NSW team to play NZ

New South Wales squad Phillip Hughes, Usman Khawaja, Peter Forrest, Steven Smith, Dominic Thornely (capt), Moises Henriques, Daniel Smith (wk), Grant Lambert, Beau Casson, Nathan Hauritz, Burt Cockley, Josh Hazlewood.

I'm guessing it's 12 v 12 so Hazelwood at 17 yo will become the youngest fast bowler ever to play for NSW. No Mail as well I don't know what that means for future FC games but seems like the selectors are listening to me :)

No mail is a big call. Looks like the selectors think the same as you after last game. Looks like Khawaja will open. I have a day off on Friday so hopefully I can go to this.

Like I said in the other thread. I'm very must looking forward to seeing the Hazelwood era start.
