New Zealand in Australia Nov-Dec 2008 Feb 2009

Tait was left out because of a possible injury I think.

Problem with this score is that it'll take a few early wickets to put some pressure on and increase the RRR. Pitch still looks good, Brackens getting some good swing and Hifly seems to be hitting the deck well. Very interested to see how Johnson goes here.

I really enjoyed watching the Kiwis bowl. Just a shame there was no Bond or Oram.

Thats been our problem all summer.
Every batsmen is not playing there natural game, there showing no aggresion all they want to do is survive.
There too scared to attack coz they might get out.

Until we get the aggresion back and lose the fear of failure no matter who plays for us we are going to continue to struggle to get decent scores.

Our bowling is good enough an NZ batting is hit an miss at times so we are still in this but 260 looks min on this pitch.

First ball McCullum tries to smash Johnson out of the ground almost got him out but fell safe. Next ball Johnson bowls one of those ripper cutters but like always doesn't get a wicket. He should just become a cutter bowler as that is his best ball.

Exactly.

The batsmen are still the same, but the confidence has hit rock bottom. That was evident esp in the way Dussey, Hussey and Clarke ground it out when the bowling was good, but not spectacular, on an easy track. Huss will do his team no good by notching up such 70+ scores at less than 80 SRs all the time, one of the top order guys literally will have to do a Jayasurya. Just to give the much needed boost to the middle orders.

Hussey was scoring at a strike rate of 80 basically, 79.78 close enough. Hes usually much better at the death but maybe batting that long him took him away from his usual game where he is usually so good at finishing.

And we have been trying to get the Gilly starts that is what Warner is there for but he has either fallen to the pressure or got a hold of by the coaches that have told him to play sensible. But yes we do need a guy that can blast away at the start. Love him or hate him we are missing Symonds who at his best would help us with the powerplay and upping the tempo.

Hopes is certainly pushing his case to be included as a bowler in our best 11. Hes easily the 2nd best ODI bowler we have atm.

Johnson gets another rubbish wicket :p Don't know why Taylor played that shot, yes the powerplay has been taken but you don't need to play silly shots when the RRR is less than a run a ball.

We don't need a guy blasting away at the start. We need controlled aggression, Warner got out to a stupid shot. I think Clarke and Marsh should be our openers, Clarke has scored 3 centuries opening (and that 98 today), clearly he's best there in ODI cricket.

It's pretty clear that our one day team is a lot weaker than our test team, we're missing defensive guys like Katich and other guys like Ponting, Clarke are out of form in the ODI arena (with Clarke's innings today the exception). Plus we don't have Siddle or a decent spinner in the one day arena either.

I'm not saying we need Warner like starts but a Gilly like start certainly won't go a miss. Most good ODI sides have a Gilly like player. SA have Gibbs and even Smith, India Sehwag, NZ McCullum. Marsh to me hasn't lived up to his IPL hype of fast scoring, gets bogged down easily in between his big shots.

Congrats boys, we have now made it 5 in a row :happy

It seems everything is pointing out saying Australia shouldn't win. NZ have had so much luck. Been a very entertaining game to watch, quality cricket.

Also, for some reason, there's a part of me that wanted this Australian team to lose (previous game as well). Just not happy with the line-up.

Grats to NZ.

NZ 2-0 up now, Hopes good work has been undone in this last over. This is where we really stuffed up, NZ are showing what we should have done from 40 overs onwards.
