New Zealand Tour of India, November 2010/11

Guptill will only play if Watling or McIntosh do terribly in the second test as well I'd think. The selectors will stay with them for one more game, but if they continue to fail, they'll want to see how Guptill'll go.

Apparently Southee will be playing tomorrow though.

From an article Howsie posted at CricketWeb from stuff.co.nz:
New Zealand coach Mark Greatbatch and captain Daniel Vettori inspected the wicket block yesterday, after which Greatbatch suggested the tourists may look to alter the balance of their bowling attack.

One change is definite after fast bowler Hamish Bennett returned home injured and Northern Districts swing bowler Tim Southee is likely to take his place here

"It looks like a good surface. It has a sheen to it which suggests the ball might skid on a little bit with the new ball," Greatbatch said

It'd be better if we'll get a result this time around. If the pitch will show some assistance towards to bowlers than tomorrow will be interesting.

Though Hyderabad venue has been a great batting track in Ranji, some of the highest scores are scored here recently, huge scores in nearly all the matches.
The last ODI played here was between India-Australia and fetched more than 700runs.

Good that Southees in, we couldn't have Arnel batting at 9. Good decision to keep McIntosh but I'm not sure about Guptill coming in he just doesn't have form and has hardly ever gotten first class runs. He should be back in NZ playing Plunket Shield. But then again Watling hasn't looked much either they should probably have replaced Bennett with another batsman.

The problem with Franklin is that he doesn't really bat three, I guess you could bring Williamson up the order which I think they will eventually do but just not yet.

I think these changes are very positive indeed.
A three pace, one genuine spinner, and one part-time spinner attack has a much better feel to it that our attack did last match.

TBH I don't think there's any solution to our top three problem.
Hopefully Williamson will be able to bat three a few series down the track, but no way should he bat up there now, and McCullum will hopefully cement himself as an opener, therefore the only batting position we'll have to worry about is our second opener, instead of worrying about the whole top three now.

Apparently the BCCI said it would cost to much money, so they didn't want to use it.

There were only two bad decisions (Williamson and VVS), so he really shouldn't be blaming the umpiring. The Zaheer one was gone, it hit the pad on the way through just before the bat, it's just the two Indian commentators who were on air at the time were pretty much as one eyed as the Aussie commentators are. With the Aussie ones you love listening to them because they're so one eyed, but no offense but I just can't stand the Indian ones, couldn't stand the BNG ones in the BNG series either. One of the Indian dudes was alright, but a few of them were terrible to listen to last test.

Dhoni was actually one of the few Indian players I was a fan off, but after the last test now I just think nothing of him.

He must be one of the worst captains going around, I had a great lol when they put 480 on us, then they had no slips in place after about 20 or so overs.

Also does anyone know what we need to do this series to go above the WI and PAK on the ICC Test ladder, how the fearsome tweak are they both above us?
I understand PAK being about on par with us in tests, but the WI... :facepalm

On the ODI rankings, we lost 16 points after the BNG series. :lol

BCCI talking about not having enough money :rolleyes

Yup Watling, Bennett and Patel are out for Guptill, Arnel and Southee.

McIntosh will get cleaned up early by Zaheer. I would call him Zaheer's bunny, but he's just too terrible in general.

McCullum out. That's the problem with him. He's super inconsistent. Despite that being a pretty good delivery from Sreesanth, McCullum can't seem to maintain a decent run of scores. Very hit and miss.

I don't think these two will stay around for too long. Hopefully they can prove me wrong. Both don't look too great.

Dhoni does a big mistake by questioning umpiring standard. Peoples seems to question his captaincy. In my opinion, implementing of UDRS doesn't mean that no one should look at the standard of umpiring, iirc their are only 3 appeals available to be made against umpire's decision.

Haven't really watched much of the morning session, but good to see the two Aucklanders get through to lunch, even though they gave up a fair few chances.

Lol at our team make up, eight players from Auckland and ND, and only one player from the South Island. It was only 5 - 10 years ago where over half the team came from Canterbury, now they're the worst province in terms of BC's.
