New Zealand tour of India (Sept-Oct 2016)

Someone is so jealous of Gambhir's success here. But still GG will keep improving and keep getting success.
"ICC Chairman" rank won't make you the real one. You are just an human being who is sitting in front of PC and cursing people here and there. And he is a successful, respected, experienced international cricketer.

This is a crazy thing I'm saying.... But Ashwin can beat Warne's record for most wickets if he plays until he's 40. But that's going to be hard, considering that Ash has to be fit and what not..

True! Well I guess I was talking big there..

Gautham Gambhir is a player who has improved in his techniques and is much better GG than he was back in 2012. He deserves another chance and he deserves more chances than Dhawan. GG has played so many domestic games since his exclusion asnd same can't be said to Dhawan. He played really responsible innnings against a top bowling unit unlike Dhawan who scored 30s against teams like Bangladesh, West Indies etc...

I smell some justice here. The new selection panel has done a great job and they have already dropped Dhawan from ODIs that remains to be seen that whether they do the same with test and t20I squad as well. Gautham can be a full time opener for India in all the formats until Rahul returns back from his injury. G will be my "first choice backup opener" and will be the same until he retires. I don't want to see him ending up as Sehwag.

On other noter, Ash has been completely dominating the world as a spinner. He still can reach the greats like Anil and I'm sure he'll do as he is having the coach Anil himself.

Anil-Virat combo has worked really well and I can say that Anil is completely deserving guy to earn 5-year contract of coach position. Virat Kohli who is the only captain of India to take the team to heights and becone the no.1 test team with the span of 2 years (almost).

ODI series will be much more competitive than tests. As we don't have any backup opener we'll get to see Rahane and Rohit back into action after a while. Bowling unit is completely unbalanced but these bunch of new guys can win the match for India. I've already posted my XI and will be the same as of now.

For people who are saying Rahul doesn't have patience, you lot haven't watched him play in domestic matches. He was so consistent, patient in all the seasons of Ranji Trophy he has played. Just go watch domestic matches. Don't rant about him by seeing only T20 matches. Also, even in internationals, he got his 3 centuries with SR of just around 50- 55. It's not patience to you people ? LOL

And Gambhir doesn't deserve to be selected ahead of Rahul. To be frank, there are many players who have done a better job than Gambhir in domestic league in past 2 years. For example, just look at Uthappa or Iyer. Considering the performance in domestic leagues, they deserve more chance than GG.

Yes, GG should be the back up opener instead of Dhawan ( if we are considering only GG and Dhawan ). But, he should never replace Rahul or Vijay in their current form.

Form won't stay behind his back till 40.
Yes, Ashwin is the best bowler right now, but Zaheer, Harbhajan also was during there time. Once your form goes down 10 others will come out for replacement.
It's India. Cricketers born every day here. We can live a day without having lunch, but we can't live without cricket. India is full of talent. And Once you dropped from the team. It's too hard to come back.
But personally I feel he will serve for India till 34-35.

India is full of talent

Agree, but the means to tap into that talent is nowhere good; otherwise we wouldn't be still on the lookout of a genuine all rounder and pace bowler.

the lookout of a genuine all rounder and
Hardik Pandya can be the answer in the one dayers. If he improves his batting, then he can be a good pace bowling all-rounder.

The non-100 scores already show that he is better than Dhawan. He got decent starts to follow up the hundred and that is a fair amount of consistency for such a new player. More exposure and time on the wicket will only improve his game, so he can convert the starts into big scores on a regular basis. He needs to be rewarded with more opportunities. Not cast aside into domestic to "prove" himself. I don't know what Gambhir has done that he suddenly warrants to be our first choice opener. His weakness was masked due to the pitch - the jabs and pokes around the off stump line to the moving delivery. I think we need to be very cautious before we fall back to Gambhir as our first choice opener

You need someone who can "already" play long innings in longer formats. Not the ones who come to international level and "improve" their game to play longer innings.

Gambhir is experienced and we lag experience in the team. We sent fairly inexperienced team to Australia for World Cup in 2015. What happened? We choked in semi final under pressure due to lack of experience. Do you think we should let Rahul "improve" his game in international level or use "already improved" Gautam Gambhir?

Rahul is first choice always along with Vijay. And he has proved himself in tests also to be given that "first choice tag". Rahul is actually more like Vijay than Dhawan. Like Vijay, Rahul is known as a solid batsman in domestic cricket who can grind out opposition attacks. Dhawan was never known in such a manner. Like Vijay, Rahul also moulded his game so well for the shorter formats that people started to think that he is an aggressive player who cannot withstand the patience and determination needed for a test match opener. Like Vijay, Rahul will most likely prove that his base is still the same (he is one his way to doing that).

I still remember how perception on Vijay dramatically changed when he lit the IPL with his swashbuckling batting. Suddenly it was like "Vijay is a T20/ODI player and wont survive in tests". Well before IPL and all, Vijay was a solid and strong batsman in domestic cricket who moulded his game for IPL and T20. And then Vijay proved himself back in tests and shut people up.

Rahul is a talented player- I'm not denying the fact. I'm telling he is way too young and needs to improve on his patience, which one should do in domestic cricket, not in the international level.

^^ I would use Rahul the inexperienced guy get experienced. Remember Gambhir too "improved" while playing international. No one comes perfect from Domestic scenario

We sent fairly inexperienced team to Australia for World Cup in 2015. What happened? We choked in semi final under pressure due to lack of experience.

Inexperienced? Selectors chose the best 15 men to represent us at that time. They all had enough experiance of playing ODI cricket. It's just that we happened to come against Steve Smith AGAIN in the sem-final. Don't tell me you wanted Yuvraj or Gambhir in that squad because they didn't do anything to warrant their selection at that point of time. We can't just keep giving chances to the guys based on their past reputation. We have to move on.

The Indian team just ran out of steam in the 2015 world cup semifinal and were unprepared when they face to face with Clarke's Aussies. They were twice as good as the other opposition that India faced, and the Aussies were too good. The batting just didn't click.
