New Zealand tour of Sri Lanka, 2009

My XI right now would be:

1: Watling
2: Guptill
3: Taylor
4: Ryder
5: Vettori
6: McCullum
7: Franklin
8: Butler
9: Tuffey
10: Bond
11: Martin

Vettori's stats over the last six years are good enough for him to bat at five. He is the captain its time for him to man up and lead from the front none of this hiding down at number eight. Have our four best pace bowlers three of which can bowl over 140 easy when they bend their backs. Our attack right now lacks penetration this should fix that. Vettori and Franklin give us two allrounders which give the attack some variation and some batting depth.

Six bowlers?

As good as Vettori has been with the bat I wouldn't want him in the top five. I'm not too sure about Taylor at three either, although I wouldn't complain if he was to bat their.

Watling
Guptill
Taylor
Ryder
Broom/Someone new
McCullum
Vettori

Look's pretty good. It won't happen though, McIntosh will be tried for a while yet as will Flynn.

My ideal XI:

1. Guptill (Aggressively please)
2. Watling
3. Flynn (I still rate him)
4. Taylor
5. Ryder
6. McCullum
7. Vettori
8. Butler
9. Tuffey
10. Bond
11. Martin

A bit weak at 8 in terms of batting now :p

Is their anyway we can bring Nathan McCullum over for the 2nd test and send Patel over to India to play with the A side. Because McCullum has been ripping it up with the ball over there in India at the moment.

My Ideal XI

1. Guptill
2. Watling/Nicol
3. Taylor
4. Broom
5. McCullum
6. Ryder
7. Vettori
8. N.McCullum
9. Bond
10. Tuffey
11. O'Brien

Yea I don't mind that team, Nicol wouldn't be anywhere near the team though. I'd play Broom at three and Ryder at five with McCullum moving down to six.

Yeah the things I were thinking.

A pity the selectors are too scared to do anything like that.

Even though I'm a fan of Watling he's been very hit and miss in F/C cricket. If he puts a few big scores early on while also figuring in his form over the winter, then he'll get the next shot at the opener spot.

I think Nicol's F/C record puts him in a position to push for a spot straight away, a good summer would instantly move him ahead of most of the other jokers in the domestic scene.

It seems that you guys not playing 'Jeettiah Patelitharan' in the next match ! :rtfl
Anyway, at least NZ put up a fight not like those Pakistanis. :)

Yes, some times not regularly like Pakistan. :laugh

Btw if you can win next time, cheers… you'll get some big points for ICC ratings because then we are the no 1 team. :happy

Pathetic performance by NZ batsman, yes normally players struggle when they play on these spinning tracks and who are used to green pitches, lets hope they come back strong, as usual a very good bowling performance by Murli, Mendis also bowled well....
