New Zealand tour of Sri Lanka, 2009

Mark Gillespie played at my old club, which my Dad was chairman of. Spoke to him a fair few times, he was a top bloke. Always hoped he did well, just don't think he cuts it atm.

Gillespie has potential though. I hope he comes back hard. The biggest issue I had with him is he always seemed to have a niggle and always bowled a four ball every over. That spell he bowled in the T20 world cup was brilliant though. At the time I think it was the best figures. From memory he bowled a pretty good spell against Australia and I remember him winning us an ODI with the bat french cutting down to the boundary. I really want to see him do well. We could do with another quickish bowler.

As for Bond, first game back i'm not expecting him to destroy, I just hope he gets through his four overs and bowled well. Even if he goes for 12's he's still my favorite. SL might try to target him. Who knows.

Totally agree about the comments about our media.

naaaa !!! he will be the last one sri lankas wants to target. SL will do good if they can keep him away from taking wickets. guy is a natural match winner

I was at that game when he french cut his way to 20 odd, best game ever. I do remember him bowling really well in the 06-07 CB series. The Australian commentators really rated him.

Indeed, Tony Grieg and Ian Chappell still go on about him whenever Australia play New Zealand.

and do butler bowl fast. i have never seen him go past 140ks maybe i have not seen him at all then :doh

Also one more thing about Gillespie, in his last ODI he bowled a really good spell, he got smashed early by Gayle (everyone did), and then he came on and took 4 for about 20 off 5 overs.

Yea he's not too bad, around 140K these days. Before his back injury he was 145+ most of the time.

New Zealand's batting first. I was kind of hoping we would bowl first so I could actually watch Bond.

Howsie added 18 Minutes and 11 Seconds later...

Malinga is bowling quick. McCullum didn't even pick that 4th ball up.

Great bowling by malinga.Goo short by ryder beauty!

Man McCullum was unlucky. He looked good too for the first time in the tour.

That was bad sportsmanship though throwing the ball down the pitch at Jesse. Don't give me that he was throwing at the stumps. That was no where near them. For players who practice hours a day that was intentional.

Once again McCullum has failed...NZ 27/2 in 4.4 overs,SL in full control so far...

Pretty harsh to say he failed.

Mendis looks alot better today then he did in the 1st test.
