ODI Tri-Series (Malaysia)

personally cant see the aussies playing around in this one, its gonna be all guns blazing with a full and complete lineup. Quick question, why are they resting Gilchrist, is he still tired after 5 months off?

Interestingly enough if India did beat Australia last night than the gap between Australia and Sth. Africa in the ODI rankings will only be 2 points. Currently it stands at 4 and it will be interesting how many points that may be reduced if Australia do lose to WI.

People on here are acting as if it is the end for India and they have no chance of winning the WC and CT. In all honesty they are still one of the favourites to take out both. They have experienced some unfortunate circumstances in the tournament so far such as the rain against WI and Aus and the umpiring decisions last night. If you take out those factors then, India will be guaranteed a final place and we will not see the amount of whinging about how hopeless Chappel is and who should by in and who should be out. India should take the positive aspects of the game such as the pace bowlers who have done extremely well in the last 2 games and is about time India have a talented and fit pace attack with the backup on Harjaban's spinning prowress. Tendulkar has found some good form before the CT and India's fielding has been pretty good in the tournament. The only dissapointment was of course the batting, but this team have the best batting lineup in the world if you have Tendulkar, Dravid, Yuvraj, Dhoni and Raina all in the one team you would expect them to perform well on the big stage.

I would think Australia would drop below South Africa if that happened. They would lose 4 or 5 points losing to a nation ranked so low.

Giving Haddin a chance most likely. Seems to have paid off to as Haddin has shown hes more than capable of replacing Gilly.

The main reason why India lost was because it experimented too much.
As someone rightly pointed out,we did not know our places in team.
They need to get the acts together before the Champions Trophy and World Cup.
It would be a shame if India were to be knocked out before the Semi-Finals in the Champions Trophy as it is on home turf.

Australia 1 Simon Katich, 2 Shane Watson, 3 Ricky Ponting (capt), 4 Michael Clarke, 5 Andrew Symonds, 6 Michael Hussey, 7 Brad Haddin (wk), 8 Brad Hogg, 9 Brett Lee, 10 Nathan Bracken, 11 Glenn McGrath

West Indies 1 Chris Gayle, 2 Shivnarine Chanderpaul, 3 Ramnaresh Sarwan, 4 Brian Lara (capt), 5 Dwayne Bravo, 6 Wavell Hinds, 7 Runako Morton, 8 Dwayne Smith, 9 Carlton Baugh (wk), 10, Ian Bradshaw, 11 Jerome Taylor

For the final.

Haha Katich got in over Hayden. Oh dear me! Bad selection there. Strong bowling side though. Watson opening is a risk in final situation but we will see how it goes. He did well last time.

But by just losing one match and that too a final?

And what about the mini world cup?I think every match is important in international cricket its not football where you play club games against weaker teams and are not interested in trying full squad.Once you lose two three series in cricket everything looks different.
But with the amount of cricket being played these days team can afford to take some games and series lightly. Like irrotev said the Aussies wouldnt mind losing this series and the Champions Trophy if they go on and win the Ashes or the World Cup or both.

Looks like the ICC rankings have not been updated since the last match. Right now Australia should be 7 points ahead of RSA, in which case they will still drop 4 or 5 points if they lose WI, but won't give up their spot in the rankings.

The ratings are the official measurement, but I don't think there is any question Australia has retained their title as the #1 ODI team since taking out the previous World Cup

Since previous ICC World Cup

19 series participated in, 15 wins, 2losses, 2drawn
94 matches, 66 wins, 21 losses, 1 drawn, 6 no result

That's an insanely impressive record given things like the toss, moments of insanity (such as the runouts yesterday) can have such a huge impact on the game. Many of those losses have come in dead rubber matches, and I think only the recent debacle in South Africa was the only final lost...

I like the changes for tomorrows final, Hayden would be a better fit than Katich, but the selectors logic is that Hayden isn't part of the Champions Trophy squad so there's no need to give him another hit-out, Katich on the other hand needs a quality knock.

The rankings take only the last two years into consideration, and keeping that in mind, I don't think the gap between the top two ODI teams in the world is as big as it used to be. Australia are still the best, but they're not as unbeatable as they used to be.

Now thats the side I'm talking about minus Katich of course. Watson at the top means we don't drop a bowler and we have 5 bowlers with Symonds/Clarke/Hussey that can also bowl if need be.

Who ever does the broadcastfor this series, honestly it really sucks, ten sports is it?

BCCI are the producers and hence the logo. But I think they are using Ten Sport's software. I think the facilities at the ground might be affecting the broadcast.
