Rugby League Official NRL 2010 thread

Slaters always a cheat. He's a grub.

But they would of known. 1.7m over the cap. You'd know you were overpaid, plus almost everyone knew, but it couldn't be proved. You don't keep all those stars under the cap. Plus what about regular day to day chat, they'd probably talk about their contracts and realise they are all way overpaid.

Even fans know how much is overpaid, so the players would know when they are overpaid.

I hate to think it also, but the star players are the ones that would've been over-payed so they surely would have known.
Warriors should make a move on Cam Smith, just the guy we need.
It's going to a very interesting week or so anyway.

Yep, I agree with these. And the star players will be looking to jump ship ASAP.

I wonder how many will go to England and European rugby. I can't see Smith moving NRL clubs, may go overseas or take a HUGE pay cut.

This has massive ramifications.

- Loss of sponsorship.
- Loss of supporters
- Loss of players
- Loss of money (i.e. sponsorship, having to pay back $1.5 million, etc).

All these could have implications for the death of the Melbourne Storm, I hope Bellamy had NFI about this but it seems unlikely, this is tweaked, he could be gone by the end of the week.

Why would the players want to play for nothing?

It is one of the darkest days in NRL history. I follow AFL a lot more, but have followed the Storm a fair bit, gone to games and stuff, absolutely stunned.

Don't even follow NRL but this a huge story. Can't believe any club in any sporting code would keep this undercover for so long and to something to this extent is pretty low. Douche Bag > Melbourne Storm

I can't see the storm surviving this. The players wont want to show up each week and play when they know they're wooden spooners with nothing to play for, this just has so many effects on the NRL.

There has also been a lot of bets placed on the Storm to finish last in the last couple of days, and a flurry of bets placed this afternoon, and the TAB will honour those bets which is surprising.

I just had to put Aidan Tolman in my fantasy team earlier today didn't I!

If the Storm manage to survive this, I hope Smith and Slater stay as they are Melbourne. If they go I definitely don't see them surviving. I use to wonder how on earth the Raiders kept touching the cap yet the Storm still manage to keep their players and I was always criticizing our management but now it makes sense.

Yesterday was the best day of my life. You really don't understand how happy I have been the last 2 days. I've been yelling at people in happiness, I've been singing songs and thinking about it, I can't get over this.

FTT.

Yesterday = Melbourne screwed
Today = St Georges day
Sunday = St George vs Roosters

If St George win on Sunday, this will be the greatest week in my life.

I wonder if they'll reach 50 :facepalm
Ah well, I guess it's understandable considering they're an illegal team that are millions over the cap.

Melbourne with the two points in the bag!

Oh, wait...

In other news:

WE ARE THE ST GEORGE AND WE ARE THE BEST!

It's hilarious how sad some of your lives are in Sydney. Getting so happy and worked up about an interstate team losing some premierships in a sport they don't really care about, anyone would think there had been a revolution....

LOL

Mate, just because you don't really care (yet you wanted to bask in their success) doesn't mean no one does. There are thousands of fans literally devastated down in Melbourne. The players are devo, coach and staff are devo.

And why wouldn't we get worked up? You would if Collingwood lost everything. It's hilarious that Melbourne thought they were so good. "we are better than you and it's your own sport!" - to roughly quote you.

I'm with Matt. You say you don't care, yet on MSN you're trying to rub in how you've been winning more premierships recently and so on. Melbourne's fans have been raging on Twitter for days. There are loads of them who are pissed.

But, they had it coming to them. No wonder they've been dominating, spending MILLIONS more than they should. They fully deserved their punishment.

Er no. I'm not sadistic enough to bask in other people's disappointment, and I have other things to be happy about in life.

Gazza added 0 Minutes and 24 Seconds later...

And yeah, maybe I shouldn't have said we don't care about it.
