Misbah will have to dig Pakistan out of a hole again here. Also Pakistan need to up the scoring rate if they want to reach 280+. Great works Sunny. Loving this story mate.
A precarious position indeed, lose a wicket and you're basically robbed of any chances of getting to 300, but get a good partnership and you never know what the last 10 overs can bring you, especially with Afridi to come!
Sharjah Cup Australia vs Pakistan Live from Sharjah
Vice-captain goes (Malik departs after a controversial decision)
Captain Ponting knew that White was running out of overs so he decided to bring on his main bowler Brett Lee who had not been very good in his previous overs. All the Pakistani batsmen were taking a liking to Lee as Misbah and Malik continued to build their partnership. Sadly their partnership ended when Malik was given out controversially.
Hopes started his 6th over from the Pavilion end. Hopes banged the ball at a short length. Looking to not take risks, Malik sensibly attempted to paddle it to fine-leg however to him it appeared as though he had missed it. Immediately Hopes and Wicket-Keeper Haddin went up to claim the catch. Billy Bowden stood his ground as all the Australian fielders began to appeal. Malik turned his back thinking he is not out. Once Malik has turned round the Australians were celebrating as Bowden raised the crooked finger. Malik stood in astonishment and could not believe he had been given out caught behind. Sadly, he had to go.
R.Jackman:Bouncer from Hopes. Now what has that hit? Hopes and Haddin are appealing... He's gone! Malik cannot believe it. That is a crucial wicket in this match. Malik was looking good but sadly he has to go. So, Vice-captain Shoaib Malik goes, Pakistan are in just a bit of bother at 134/4.
The replay confirmed that Malik had gloved it to the keeper.
Surprisingly, the crowd did not stay silent. Because they knew who was next. Yes! It was BOOM BOOM Shahid Afridi! As soon as he came out of the pavilion, an instant roar erupted throughout the stadium. "Chacha Cricket" led the celebrations as Afridi arrived at the crease.
Ponting and the rest of the team huddled and discussed the plan for Afridi because he knew that once he got going, he could end up being destructive. Ponting moved Mid-Off back on the boundary and brought a slip in. The plan was to get him early and to net let him get settled.
The crowd want to see some entertainment but don't want to see Afridi head back to the Pavilion. Another wicket here and the pressure will be on Pakistan to reach 280. This will test Afridi's patience.
