Both :p

The difference to me seems that every new kid coming up the ranks seems to know how they have to bat in this era, and don’t have that innate conservatism that a past U19 star like Sami Aslam might have had. Obviously not all of them will be regulars for Pakistan, but the PSL will give them an opportunity to shine, like it did for Haris and Saim, and Hafeez can’t stop franchises from picking them. He will probably be removed after the elections anyway.
Mickey and Bradburn are still under contract, so they could come back with Sethi.

The biggest issue isn't whether or not these guys will play in the PSL, it's how well that can translate into the international team and the old ways are still the best ways...i.e. having a solid first class base to fall back on. We've seen lots of names come through, very few of them have any staying power, whether its batting or bowling.

And its a story that is also true in India and now, increasingly so in SA, where the local T20 brand has become the big money maker.

I don’t know about the PSL but that isn’t true for India or South Africa at all, or at least it’s not in the way you’ve depicted it. South Africa’s issues with players not transferring their FC skills to the test scene has been present before the SA20 or even the ill fated MPL. Theunis was bossing it in domestic cricket, Verreynne was the best batter not named van Tonder when he was selected, Hamza and Petersen were supposed to be the technically correct and tenacious batters who could bat at three, Rickelton has been hyped for a while and Mulder continues to be one of the best all-rounders at FC level globally. Yet none of these cricketers have panned out at test level despite opportunities before SA20.

In India’s case, both Bumrah and Axar were picked after a significant break in FC cricket for them on the back of their white ball form and yet they had strong debut series’ and have both been in and around the side. Siraj and Pant both had monstrous domestic seasons too but it was their IPL performances that handed them their Indian debuts and they’ve worked out well. Mayank is the only one I can think of who was selected despite his poor IPL performances and worked out well in the end… and you must not be familiar with our side if you think we don’t have a XI rooted in staying power, if anything there was too much of it.

I’m honestly not sure what T20 leagues, the IPL or any of this has to do with this present Pakistani tour of Australia. :lol

Same shit that Hafeez has been regurgitating, he wants younger players to play a full season of FC before playing T20s
Sure, there’s an argument that someone like Abrar with more FC experience and success could have bowled with more control than Usama Mir in the World Cup (Misbah did suggest that change to Babar when he was appointed a consultant alongside Hafeez), but banning young players from T20s is just gonna diminish the chances of their raw ability flourishing properly in white-ball cricket.

I didn't suggest anyone from not playing PSL and no idea what Hafez has said or hasnt I dont listen to him.

But there is an issue, the world over but particular in Pakistan or test calibre cricketers. Shadab is a great example of this, he looked like a rising star and a potential test calibre all rounder but decided to make a living play T20 leagues aorund the globe, which led to a deterioration of his skills so much so ,that he is no longer even a first pick for the ODI game and can't even get a sniff of the test game.

Only people with little or no understanding of cricket would think its ok for younger cricketers to predominantly play a game which is essentially 4 overs per person than also have experience in the FC circuit, whether it be domestically or elsewhere.

In team discussion, Pakistan look to be playing their first XI at Perth without a proper spinner: Imam-ul-Haq, Abdullah Shafique, Shan Masood (capt), Babar Azam, Saud Shakeel, Sarfaraz Ahmed (wk), Agha Salman, Faheem Ashraf, Shaheeh Shah Afridi, Aamer Jamal, Khurram Shahzad

That's a terrible plan. No Rizwan and no first line spinner. Agha can barely hold up an end in ODIs, he wont be bale to bowl 20 overs a day in Tests without being smashed for at least 100 runs.
Pakistan are also looking at that pitch and thinking "fast bowling yaar" but in reality, batting first must be preferred! Australia have own tosses and batted first at the "new" Perth and absolutely walloped opponents...scoring almost 600 against the Windies, 400+ against NZ and 300+ against India.

I just hope Shan is smart enough, that if he wins the toss, he bats first.

Welcome to another episode of unpicking domestic cricket shambles.

The President's Cup has started. It is the other 4 day competition in the season, with 7 departmental teams competing rather than regional teams.

Teams:
Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), Pakistan Television (PTV), State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA), Khan Research Laboratories (KRL), Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Ghani Glass.

Ok, now that the basic info is done, time for the problems. Firstly, lets look at the SNGPL lineup for the first match:

sngpl.png

This is a very strong lineup. 10 of the players have played international cricket and the 11th, Haseebullah, is being groomed to be Mohammad Rizwan's successor in the national team.

The problem with this? Everyone else is comparably trash. In fact, SNGPL, State Bank of Pakistan and Khan Research Laboratories seem to be the only teams that pick players on merit.

All the other teams have 2 or 3 capped/solid players and the others seem to be there to make up the numbers. Let's take a look at two of the captains in this first round:

:ar: Uzair Mumtaz (PTV):

Uzair is 19 years old and captained Gujranwala Giants in the Pakistan Junior League last year. Before today he had no FC experience whatsoever, and recently failed to make the Pakistan U19 squad for the Asia Cup/World Cup. The only reason I can think of for him captaining is he has some connections with PTV who own the team. Which leads me to my next case study...

:x: Moeez Ghani (Ghani Glass):

Notice how his last name is the same as the company's name? This is a 24 year old with no experience of professional cricket whatsoever. Now he's captaining at FC level, which leads me to conclude this is the owner's son or nephew.

Mark my words, this departmental cricket will end up being a hunting ground for rich kids going through the system through pure nepotism. The table will end up very lopsided, we might even see a few FC records broken. Half the teams are in it to win it, the others... are not. The lack of equity among departments will mean that even if every team tries to win and be a successful team, the richer companies will always end up with the better players due to the availability of cold hard cash. This comp is a disgrace to anyone talented enough to play and missing out because you don't know any rich old businessmen. I hope PCB come to their senses soon and either scrap this or fix it, but it's unlikely to happen anytime soon with Sethi or Ashraf at the helm. Failed country. Failed system.

EDIT: Have a look at this too

This has to be wrong. Asad Shafiq just took Salman Butt's place as selector. And isn’t Azhar retired too? He didn’t play QeA Trophy

Do they have any rules? :p

From this article:
He has agreed to play three games for his department side SNGPL (Sui Northern Gas Pipelines) in the returning Patron's Trophy - the first-class tournament for department teams - because they will be missing several players away on Test duty.

This whole system is a corrupt joke, as expected really. In this, both Sethi and Ashraf are one and the same.
We need an 8-team regional structure, the best domestic cricket quality was during the 6-team structure.

As for Azhar, they probably offered him a shitload of cash that he couldn't refuse. I assume atleast some of these players were meant to play for SSGL before they withdrew, so now they're in for SNGL.
