Pakistan to refuse to play WC games in India

"Well informed source" in the subcontinent means made up usually.

I can give you another link of a leading English news daily of India. Here:

PCB to sign truce with the ICC

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to accept the International Cricket Council (ICC)?s decision to move the matches out of the trouble-torn country.
A formal truce between the PCB and the ICC is expected to be announced on the World Cup issue after a meeting between the heads of the two bodies in Dubai on July 28 or 29,? a well informed source in the board said on Tuesday.

Well I've been absent for a bit lately, but why is it that the PCB and the BCCI always seem to feel the need to out-tantrum each other? They team up to persecute racist umpires and referees, and then a month later they're worst enemies because of stupid politics. The two of them create problems then argue with each other as to how to fix them. This is, predictably so, Pakistan trying to argue that they were unfairly stripped of the right to host World Cup matches.

I suppose they should call the cricketers who don't want to tour "lily-livered cowards" again.

Of course you can't fight city hall, and the BCCI are city hall.

I seriously feel that everybody on this forum has a very poor reading comprehension level.

Dean, for prehaps the 10 millionth time now, Pakistan do not want to host their games in Pakistan. As hosts of the 2011 WC, they wish to host their WC games in the UAE.

That is the main issue on hand.

KC - the only truce being made there is that Pakistan's games will not be played in Pakistan - there's nothing new about that :laugh

zMario - it says they are not going to pursue anymore legal options against the ICC on the World Cup issue. Which means they are giving up on the UAE option too (how else can they convince the ICC to move their matches to the UAE apart from the court?). They will be giving up on the UAE option too, and they will be given other benefits APART from the World Cup hosting fee which they are already entitled to even though they dont host games in Pakistan/UAE.

I wonder when we will be receiving 2011's hosting fees since it took over 10 years to receive the 1996 WC's hosting fees from the ICC :)

Anyway, let's wait and see. Every article names this "unknown" source, which I again say, in Pakistan and India means nothing.

That unknown source is mostly board official who was humiliated in last meeting of board.

Which makes absolutely no sense since it would mean the tournament was being played in two regions. Pakistan may accept that no one will come there but that doesn't mean they aren't peeved off that it was moved away, and as you said, that a replacement wasn't offered. In both cases, they are being unreasonable.

What's the difference? Pitch soil comes from Pakistan, the crowd will be mostly Pakistani (for Pakistan games), win win situation for all.

Also, it is a shorter plane trip (You cannot go to Pakistan directly from India, Sri Lanka, or Bangladesh on a commercial airline - teams (and fans) would have to go to Dubai or Abu Dhabi, and then fly to/from Pakistan).

Just because technically the UAE isn't part of the sub-continent, does not mean they can't host any games. The Netherlands are not part of England the last time I checked, and they hosted a world cup game in 1999 (between Kenya and South Africa?).

The Netherlands wern't in that WC either.

It can easily be done, but the BCCI don't want it to happen :)

After reading all these posts I am inclined to side with zmario. If Pakistan want their matches to be held in the UAE , I do not see any valid reasons why they should not besides the cost. Apparently the PCB (according to zMario) has offered to pay for it. If that is the case then there should be no reason to deny their request. As far as I know the UAE is safe, (safer than India at least)

Whats the criteria to define that? Because there has been no terrorist attack in UAE? If you are talking for the standpoint of protecting the cricketers who are going to come to the country amidst prevailing tensions, India should be as safe (or maybe even safer because we have more manpower than UAE and should be a more secure protection). Terrorist attacks happen in India because people (from other countries mostly) are not happy with the rapid growth that the country shows (now dont bring the Slumdog issue here, there are areas where development needs to go, but for right now overall, India is showing rapid growth along with China). The terrorists attacked the Taj because it was a symbol of India's growth (and they attacked the foreign nationals because these guys are frequently coming to India which is a sign of India's tourist attraction).

Sorry for taking this topic on a different track, but India is safest of the subcontinental nations and is safer than UAE.

Let us agree to disagree on the security issue. Do you have any issue against holding games in the UAE besides security?
