Pakistan v Australia in England, June-July 2010

Wahab Riaz is 25 years old right now.

Aamer is younger, so he will still be playing by the time Riaz retires.

Asif is 27 years old

Gul is 26 years old.

Assuming all 3 remain fit in the test line-up, Riaz will not play till Asif retires at say 36 or 37 - and then Riaz is about 35, and by that time, one or two Mohammad Aamers / Wasim Akrams / Waqar Younises will come through the system.

So no, unless Riaz improves substantially, he has no place in the long-term future of this team.

*I'm using the listed ages, their actual ages may be different.

I don't mind the selection of O'Keefe as backup spinner to be honest. Doherty's name has been thrown around and he had a decent domestic season with 12 wickets at 24.25 over 3 matches but a career first class average of 51.39 doesn't exactly inspire.

O'Keefe, I don't know... I'd rather breed Holland into a pure spinner role for the future.

Every single Pakistani batsman contributed! Checks to see if hell has frozen over.

Wow! Only Akhtar missed out with regards to wickets but good economy rate of 2.66. If only they did this when it came to internationals...

The best would be Holland for ODI's and T20I's and Smith for Tests.

Another plus point to Pakistan's superb performance yesterday - we wern't at full strength as we didn't have Afridi or Aamer.

Afridi is expected to play in the game today against Northants though.

Insomniac added 12 Minutes and 5 Seconds later...

Pakistan has started tour quite well, best thing is everybody is getting practice which will help those players who never played in English conditions.
