Pakistan v Australia in England, June-July 2010

The other problem with Watson is that he's fast becoming our best bowler, even Kallis couldnt cope at 3 and bowl a stack of overs, so you'd have to move Watson down unless he REALLY didnt want to. Time will tell I guess. I think Ponting will retire after this Ashes anyway, his one day career ends after the World Cup, I dont see him lasting in tests until 2013, but he could come good again.

Yes ponting will soon retire

It was tough and we nearly made a mess of it, but a win is a win. England would be an exciting series, and with the belief that we can win, we probably will put up a better fight. The batting still doesnt look solid, and its likely that Yousef is going to make a comeback in the series against England. Amin is likely to make way, although I would like to give him 2 TESTs or so.

The bowling is fantastic. Asif, Aamir, Gul are fantastic. Gul is a bit on/off but when he is on song, he is pretty deadly. Kaneria's place is under doubt but I guess he needs to be given atleast one more game.

Finally a 4 TEST match series. If we dont lose the 1st TEST I think we will do fine, the team has looked better and better the more we play.

This is the first time, I have seen Pakistan defeat Aussies in a test match . We did not get the live coverage back in 1995. It is an awesome feeling to finally win against the Aussies. All the kudos to our bowlers bar kaneria for their wonderful bowling. Another thing to note is that we did not drop a single catch in the whole series. Thats why we ended up winning. If Younis comes back and rest of batting clicks, we might just give very tough time to England.

You will probably find it hard to move Watson as he has really warmed up to the opening spot. Also don't know if Watson will go as well down at 6.

Watson could go anywhere in the order really, people keep saying 6 but thats just old tradition for the all rounder, Kallis bats 4 no reason Watson could go 4 or 3 in the future.

Would it really make that much difference to his workload batting him at 3 or 4 though? 4 maybe but 3 is pretty similar if your openers aren't doing the job and even if they are, it just takes one ripper to get him in early.

It wouldn't make a difference in the 1st innings if they bat first, but it could in the 2nd, 3rd or 4th, especially if he runs through the lower order and has to bat in the same session.

The fact is that Watson's got one century from 22 innings up the order and the scratchy way that one came up is not reassuring, nearing one season later. 50s are good for the middle order, but more than anyone, openers need to be in for the long haul; something Watson is struggling with that in all forms of the game. Meanwhile, he's got 2 fives and a four. At this stage, his bowling has the greater capacity for effect and I'm sure we've got better openers.

Oh yeah, I wouldn't think moving Watson down would be ultimately due to his bowling workload, more than we have specialist openers who could do better, whereas Watson could bat anywhere where he's needed unlike say Hughes. Would work out well to slot in Hughes and watt somewhere else, 3 or 4 or wherever.

Can see the merit in doing that, atm the only other spot free is 5 probably more 6 since Hussey is still there. Clarke has stepped up and as future captain the number 4 spot is his.

If Pakistan win this series even 1-0 we can see some settlement in Pakistan Test Side

Rather they stick with these youngsters and let them improve instead of those guys coming in and screwing with the team chemistry. Butt has shown that he can lead the team all be it for one test but he seems to know what hes doing. Not everything will go his way, certainly not another toss decision like this but its better then Younis and Yousuf trying to tell him what to do and messing with the youngsters minds.
They have a solid team structure with solid coaching, no need for Younis and Yousuf.

Ha now way. Its not as if Ali & Amin scored hundreds in this series. They are woefully inexperienced, although talented.

It would be crazy not to bring back both Younis & MoYo if you can have them. Before this tour it was clear that Afridi wanted them back. The problem with the PAK selections comes from the bureaucrats @ the top - rather than the players.

Who were the ones found at fault following the Australia tour? The players.
Pakistan allowed Malik back, huge mistake.
They are great batsman but as shown in the past they arent great team players. Last thing this young team that is finally working together needs is Younis and Yousuf. Yousuf is 35 and Younis is 32, MoYo is just about done at that age and I would rather give his spot to some youngster that can learn the game rather then a guy who retired 5 times in the past year and is going to retire for good (I hope) in a year. Younis wants the captaincy, then doesn't want it and then he cant make up his mind what to do. Pakistan wasted all that time grooming him under Inzi to be the next captain and then he throws it down the drain. They could have gotten some other player ready to take over the captaincy, maybe it could have been Butt.
Ali had a solid 2nd test against England while Amin is only 20 and played just 32 Frst Class matches. If either of those guys fail miserably then again I would rather go to some younger batsman then the 2 old guys.

The chances of Yousuf & Younis to come back seems pretty low

Totally disagree my friend. I'd like to hear what an actual PAK fan on this forum feels about the possible return of Younis & MoYo.
