Pakistan v Australia in England, June-July 2010

Wow what a test match this is turning out to be. This over from Gul will definitely boost Pakistan's confidence and they will look to restrict Australia to as low lead as possible and on the other hand, Australia would be looking for a lead of around 350 at least.

The problem is that even though we have them at a 100/4 (effective 200 for 4), another 50 runs and there's no way this battign order can chase that total unless the sun comes up.

Don't agree with Afridi's gameplan. The fact that he's the captain should mean he should bat with responsibility. Number 6 is a proper batting position, to say that he should slog because he can't survive is rubbish. He's not supposed to be a number 10 whom you ask to have a go. Those 30 runs were useless and if he thought that he couldn't survive the conditions, then he really shouldn't be playing Test cricket. It's not like he can bowl with any penetration in this format nor is he much of an innovative captain. We don't need to play him just because he's a good cheerleader. Either act the part of captain and a number 6 batsman, or give it up.

I thought Butt batted well, should've kept more strike after Afridi, because number 9-11 are basically all number 11s. Tht being said, he was the only one who played sensibly so criticism shouldn't be thrown his way. Umar Amin as I feared, got out early while this being the first time I've seen Azhar Ali, I'm not convinced either way as of yet with regards to his batting.
Didn't expect much from Kamran, I'm just surprised he hasn't dropped a sitter yet.

The bowlers haev all had their moments, Asif being the pick of the attack but realistically speaking, there's little chance of us winning the match unless Umar Akmal or Butt make a century.

Serves the PCB right in a way for not taking one of the best middle order duo in recent years. :facepalm

Yousuf was asked to come back and he chose not to. They thought that Younis was out of form which might have been a mistake but who knows maybe he was causing problems and the coach and captain didn't want him there.
The team will improve, there are one of the younger and most inexperienced team going around. Cant expect things to get better overnight but at least we know where the bowling stands

Younis wasn't picked because he didn't apologize to the PCB for his actions. Yousuf was told that if he makes himself available, they would consider his selection, which basically meant that he too should step up and apologize, else he won't be selected.

As for the bowling, Asif is the only worldclass Test bowler, Amir might get there but he's nowhere near there yet (as an average of 38 despite not playing in Pakistan or India shows). Danish is a good to average bowler, nothing more while Gul has been sub-ar for the last 2-3 years in test matches. Doesn't exactly inspire confidence, no wonder we don't win test matches.

I am not talking about that. I live near San Francisco. :sarcasm

But what he said was beyond gay. 'I wanna have his babies'! Wtf!

The win is in front of us.

If everyone hits 30 off 15 balls, then that's 300 (giving room for one failure).

Also, we rolled through Australia's lower order last time, and there is no Hussey which is a big factor IMO. If we get Katich early tomorrow morning, it can be done. Umar Akmal and Butt score 100s, with another Afridi cameo.

Regarding Afridi's cameo today, it was just one shot too many. I can see why he wanted to take Watson out of the attack - so Steven Smith would be introduced early. Also, all the other batsmen tried defending and they got out, so he tried something different. And besides, it was entertaining, wasn't it?

Afridi had the right idea, but he went for far too many.

Meh. I'd of had Flintoff's babies and I'm not gay. :p

I am guessing you and Gazza have a vagina. A female part trapped in a male body, and the mind is gay? ah! this is too weird!

I don't agree with Afridi's gameplan either. That's the way you bat with the tail not with your top scorer. But there's one factor that no one's mentioning: Shane Watson. I'm not sure what it is about Watson, maybe batsmen hate his smirk, his cockiness and want to smash the crap out of him. But the eyes of batsmen definitely light up when they see the big fella lumber in, probably mostly because he's seen as the weak link. It does wonders in the short forms. His ODI average is excellent and he's done pretty well in T20 with ball too because he's the bowler who's always targetted and he has the knack of slipping off that target and getting scalps. So I can understand how Afridi got tempted by having Watson bowl at him. If it were Hilfenhaus bowling with Bollinger at the time it might have been different.

Katich is an absolute storm trooper, you might hate watching him, but he really does graft at the big scores. His scores in 2010 have read;

11, 100, 79, 18*, 88, 106, 80, 49**

the 49 is the current innings in the match against Pakistan. That is a top start to the year!
