Pakistan v Australia in England, June-July 2010

I am appalled at Kaneria's selection. The guy is under investigation:doh. I agree with BKB in that we have already lost the series based on selection alone. Imran Farhat plays as his father in law is a selector. Gul is not good enough bowler at test level. Kamran Akmal will drop at least three catches per match of fast bowlers (he does not catch anything of spinners anyways). Shoaib Malik will be found out with his faulty backfoot play. Amer may be the only shining ray of hope here, but he is no wasim akram (yet) and can not take down England and Australia alone. I will be surprised if Pakistan are able to draw a test let alone win any of the six. :facepalm

Nice to see the selectors continue looking towards the future, not that Marsh isn't in the future, just feel Khawaja has been pushing more for Test selection.

Good to have Hilfy back again, now just a case of whether the selectors will pick him.

^Yep, Wade has to wait his turn just like everyone else had to. Honestly it wouldn't matter who Australia picks to keep, they are gonna do the job. So we should be celebrating that we have 5 good keepers rather than complaining our personal favourite hasn't made it.

Agree, kudos to big Merv et al who made the call for Usman. And the call for Hazlewood and Smith in this current ODI series. Give the kids a go when there is no obvious reserve. I guess Cameron White might feel a little aggrieved that he didn't get the reserve batsman spot, but from Hilditch's comments about Usman being able to bat anywhere, I'm guessing he's the reserve opener and #3, whereas Smith would be the replacement if the 4-5-6 got injured. No room for Whitey.

And I'd guess ideally Hilfy would be ahead of Ryan Harris, but I think it will depend how impressive Hilfy looks in the nets and in the Derbyshire warmup match.

Yep would say you are spot on with the cover. So really only Marsh was a chance of overtaking him but I would guess his ability to bat in the middle order also helps.

Pakistan's first game of a very long tour is today, a T20 against the MCC team at Lord's. Hopefully we can get off to a winning start (as we should, this MCC team is full of hasbeens and newcomers)

Is this game being telecasted or broadcasted on radio?

Lara scored 37 against Pakistan and got bowled by Gul. It probably was a toecrusher :D

UAkmal batted really well.Gul was a bit expensive.Akhtar bowled well.

The former Indian captain had already survived a close lbw appeal against Ajmal in the previous over. Shahid Afridi, like a predator, jumped on the nervous Ganguly, ribbing him with some sly remarks.

Ganguly was annoyed and shot back at his counterpart, asking him to stay away. Never shy to engage in mid-pitch banter, Afridi started walking towards Ganguly as the crowd started screaming excitedly. But Ganguly was not interested in any further conversation.

:laugh:laugh:laugh

Only Afridi would do this - anyway Pakistan won by 6 runs in the end, so good start to a long tour.

Now tomorrow the 3 day tour game against Kent begins, so hopefully we do well in that.

Simon Katich NSW 34
Usman Khawaja NSW 23
Marcus North WA 30
Steven Smith NSW 21
Shane Watson NSW 29

:happy

As soon as Khawaja bats, the replacement for Ponting will be obvious

Kaneria and Akmal have plenty of test experience as well though.

Farhat although in the team based on sifarshi, does make starts of 20-30 usually. If Butt can also bat well, then we should have about a 50 run opening partnership consistently throughout the entire tour, which I guess is acceptable.

I think Umar Amin can take Mohammad Yousuf's spot for now, while in all likeliness Malik will have to bat at #3 (or #4, and Amin bats at #3) - then Umar at #5.

Then obviously Afridi at 6, and Khatmal at 7, with 4 bowlers (Aamer, Gul, Kaneria, and Asif).

It's a good team, if the batting fires.

:hpraise Hillarious, but maybe a bit too harsh on the two.
