Pakistan vs England in United Arab Emirates - October/November 2015

I hope the win with Hong Kong would give some confidence to Pak for upcoming T-20s with England. Fingers crossed for some good T-20 combination unlike the fuss we had in the One Day Internationals

Afridi is a strong captain, unlike Azhar. He won't let Waqar make the decisions.

As for One day Cricket, I feel that Pakistan had gotten a sound middle order batsman whose name is Haris Sohail, A Consistent performer and was emerging as a dependable player in the middle, but quite filled with his injury issues. Lets hope to see him back soon in the ODI squad. The most worrying thing is consistent experimentations and this is also going with the T-20 side. I think they got a solid batsman Nauman Anwer but despite showing positive signs of him as a batsman he hasnt been awarded right kind of opportunity. Thankfully, we are saved from Mukhtar, He had serious issues with his technique and talent. As World T-20 is not too far. Pak T-20 side can't afford much experiments. Need a balanced side

On the other note, I read Waqar statements post-final ODI that they were looking for young talents and its an achievement that they have found some new talent.

Not a very good-looking statement coach, Finding talent is good for future projects but winning is far more important because if you would make the team loose like this, You would be in a pretty shameful situation when you would need to play the qualifying round of the World Cup...

I am surprised there is not one post here. Was flicking channels and came to the Eng Pak T20 game. Didn't even know it was on today. Anyway, another Limited Over win for England. I think England are doing great in the limited overs and they are ones to watch out for in the limited overs format.

Didn't watch it, but nice to be able to rest our two best players and win reasonably comfortably. Promising signs, particularly as the two guys (Vince and Billings) that came into replace them did well.

Interesting that Morgan didn't bowl Rashid. It was quite a bold move from England as they played 5 specialist bowlers, meaning they had Rashid, Jordan and Plunkett at 7, 8 and 9. In the summer, I thought that batting someone like Billings down at 7 was a waste of a spot that an all rounder could have. However, if Rashid isn't going to be used that often for fear of being too expensive, I think we can afford to let Billings bat at 7, bring Root into the top 6 and have him as your third spinner. Parry is a must pick for me. Best t20 spinner in the country. So WC lineup could be

1. Roy
2. Hales
3. Root
4. Ali
5. Morgan
6. Buttler
7. Billings
8. Willey
9. Plunkett
10. Parry
11. Topley

Topley and Willey are must picks now for me. The left arm factor and their variations are such an asset. Plunkett is competing with Woakes, Jordan and perhaps Stuart Broad for the final bowling spot. Incredibly, due to their respective injuries, Wood and Finn will probably find themselves out of the squad. Also, how do you get Stokes into the team? I don't think you can, as 3 seamers and 3 spinners will be the way to go.

I didn't catch much of Vince, but good to see him getting a score after the tricky start we had. I thought Billings was very good though. Doesn't quite have the power of Buttler to hit straight, but the potential is definitely there. I think this innings will give him confidence going forward.

Regarding the make up of the team, I think 5 bowlers and Ali is fine. Especially when you consider that one of those 5 will be Stokes, which adds to the batting too. Good to see we have competition for places. I'm not convinced by Roy and think Ali would be better opening, but you can't leave him out after his ton the other day, so fair play to him for taking his chance.

I must say that England played well and Pakistan had a childish performance as far as the batting is concerned. There was no rytham to the innings at all. No planning seen whatsoever. The debutant Rafatullah was an extreme disappointment atleast the way he was playing yesterday. Seemed to me a lot nervous and no experience of playing at this level at all. Others were so quite much hurry and lead to an utter disappointing loss. I saw the squad and this is quite different squad relative to one we have in the past series. Looks like they will never done with silly experimentation and would never find a winning combination.

England can consider themselves lucky. We would've won if it wasn't for that ridiculous decision. Not taking any credit away from them though. Rashid and Parry bowled really well. Sarfraz disappointed again and got out to a silly shot. You're the last recognised batsman, your team needs 11 off the last over, and you try to sweep a ball from outside off. Does he think he's AB de Villiers or what? Afridi finally seems to have rediscovered how to bowl decently. The last T20 will be played in Sharjah, which means a lot more spin than in this match.
Pakistan should drop Tanvir (why the hell does he keep getting selected?), rest Wahab and bring in Irfan and Bilal Asif, which would give us a 5th bowler and further strenghten our batting. Disappointing to see Rafatullah not performing.

We won because Afridi came in far too late. If he does that a couple of overs earlier, we would have been in big trouble.

I was surprised to see Pakistan get 6 when it hit the batsman's bat. I thought that kind of thing is normally a dead ball. I think with a more experienced Captain that might have been queried. Good to have already won the series essentially giving everyone a game though. Shows the depth is there.

When it hits the batsman bat most self respecting players usually refuse to run however it obviously gets a bit unavoidable when its runs away for 4 and is unfortunately just tough luck.

Would still start Rashid over Parry would obviously be in squad. While having the left-arm variation of Wiley & Topley is fine, I'd still say only Wiley is a sort. Wood and Finn have to be there IMO. Although the way Plunkett bowled and extra batting ability could indeed one them miss out.

Stokes too should start over Billings who would be a great back-up batsman. Not even sure if they even need to pick Broad, ENG have never had so much good limited overs options that's for sure

I agree. We have amazing depth now. Stuart Broad is an interesting dilemma. I think he's definitely worth his place in the side, but England have been on a good run since May, and he's played no part in that, so might be unfair to people who have been doing a great job.

Finn and Wood may still be injured in March. Even if they're fit, would you pick them above Willey, Finn, Topley and Woakes? I probably wouldn't. Think they're better bowlers than Woakes, but Woakes offers a lot with bat and in the field. Mark Wood should probably just focus on Test cricket from now on. It's clear he can't play too much back to back cricket. Might be wise just to retire from white ball cricket.

James Vince has made a case for himself now. I don't think the selectors have ever had such positive problems. Looking forward to the WC now.

Ye I don't have a problem if selectors feel they want to wrap Wood in cotton wool and not play in T20 WC, given his obvious long term importance to ENG. Although I'd say if he is fit play him in WC, but don't play him useless bilateral T20s until next tournament.

In reality then we have 3 places in the final lineup for :

Plunkett
Woakes
Willey
Topley
Wood
Finn
Jordan
Stokes

Also worth thinking that there will probably only be 6 places for them based on the following squad :

Hales
Roy
Vince
Root
Morgan

Buttler
Billings

Ali
Rashid
Parry
