Pakistan vs England in United Arab Emirates - October/November 2015

I know all teams do it (especially England) but it's crazy that the Umpires have nothing to stop teams from taking so long to bowl their overs at the end of a match. We had 11 overs in an hour at the end, where if it had been 15, we'd have probably won.

Good finish to the match for us though, hopefully we can get a decent result in the next Test.

Revenge for Karachi :D.
On a more serious note, disgraceful performance from our batting line-up in the 2nd innings, but also credit should be given to the English bowlers, especially Rashid.

This test is one of the reasons why I don't like to comment on test matches while they are in progress - because the last day play kind of made suggestion that this pitch was a total road look a bit pre-mature.

It really was no different to any Asian flat pitch that deteriorated late. Overall it probably was just slightly flatter for slightly longer and started to give spinners assistance much later than expected.

Any point in England playing Wood in the next match? Samit would surely be more useful.

Chris Jordan coming in for Finn is ridiculous. He hasn't bowled well in the last year and another right arm 85mph bowler is hardly going to scare the oppo on these pitches. Mark Footitt should be out there.

Watched the highlights, Rashid was really turning it on the last day, he looked a real handful. A slightly bizarre ending to the match though.

I don't think some dreadful batting from Pakistan should cover up how poor this is and it should be fined and warned just as Trent Bridge was.

Why was Trent Bridge fined? I can't remember.

In all honesty, this wasn't the horrendous pitch everyone made it out to be. Some times, pitches are gonna favour batsmen, other times bowlers. Just look at the ridiculous length of those tests in the ashes, all over in 3 days. Pitch and conditions change from place to place. I don't think we should get on our high horse and be like " oh no, tests in Aisa will kill test cricket". This is just a part of the game. Plus, it produced an excellent 5th day and in all honesty, I think England were denied a historic win. That should be the controversy, that Umpires need to be more practical and if a result is less than 10 overs away, let the game carry on. Imagine the tv moment for everyone watching if england had one in a last gasp effort, instead of a light meter and some handshakes. Ridiculous.

Ahh ok, so who administered the fine? The ECB or the ICC? If it was the ECB then it obviously doesn't apply in the UAE but if it was the ICC, then it should be administered every where equally.

Also, I just googled it and I can't see where Trent Bridge was fined, I found a cricinfo article stating they may be fined. The same from the Independent.

Nah this pitch was very similar to famous Adelaide 2006 Ashes series pitch.

And absolutely road would be some on the Antigua Recreation ground pitches in the 90s/early 2000s

Come on. On the first 4 days of this test, no ball moved off the straight, there was absolutely no bounce and definitely no spin. Batters were playing everything off the back foot, knowing that even a full delivery from the spinner could be easily punched off the back foot with all the time in the world.

What's worse is that you couldn't even say 'well at least the run rates were high and it was exciting batting' because the slowness of the pitch meant that stroke play was difficult. Cook's shovelling technique was perfect for that pitch, but not many people play like him.

On the fifth day, Hafeez, Misbah and Younis (the three best players) had a brain storm. You can't say that the pitch got them out. For a couple of hours, all three of them made it look easy.

This pitch certainly needs the same punishment as the one Trent Bridge got last year.

I think it was Nasser who referenced it a couple of times through this test but admittedly I can't find any official record of it. Seem to remember him saying the pitch was given a poor rating by the match referee which results in a fine and a kind of 'yellow card' in case of a repeat offence anytime soon.

TBH, that sounds like a good system. Fine the board, via the ICC on wickets that have produced boring, lonely cricket. Having said that, the last day may save the PCB and Abu Dhabi in my opinion. That would lead to the preparation of better, more competitive pitches. I seem to remember the pitches versus England in 2012 and Australia last year were much better. Let's hope they get it right next time.
