Pakistan vs Sri Lanka in UAE Oct-Nov 2011/12

Or rather, they're the type of team that can actually lose a game when chasing 170

Its not like that...atleast they could have tried....and see how it goes till the 5th over....10th over... like that.....if they lose some 3-4 wkts with 60 on the board....then close shutters.....

Guys, I'd not be wasting my time watching the remaining test matches :facepalm

Pakistan used to be famous for their full throttle attitude. But under Misbah they are a lot more conservative. Pakistan should have won the game on the 4th day but they dropped 5...yes 5....catches. SL would have lost by an innings.

I'm not too clued up about these situations really. I can't remember a test where someone has tried to knock off 100 or so runs at a bit over a run a ball in a bid to win a tight match.

Is it ever the done thing? all the examples I remember it was usually just a bridge too far anyway, but I've never seem anyone go for it.

Take a look through this list Fastest Run Rates in the 4th innings and you'll find a few examples of teams going hard in the last session. Many weren't on the last day though and it's really not too many examples when you consider there's been 2000-odd Tests. The most recent example of a last session chase was probably 2006/07 Ashes at Adelaide. England were bowled out at tea on day 5 and Australia needed 160-odd to win in the last session.

But there hasn't really been any T20 style chases. Many of the top ones on the list are way before T20s came in.

yeah, it's weird it hasn't happened more often. A lot of those ones looked like a team was so set for an easy chase that they just scored very freely.

there is one interesting one from 1987 where england fell short by 14 runs and drew the match after going at almost 6 an over in the last session. three run outs too suggest they were going for it, only one six though.

This isn't exactly test cricket, but last night in the SA provincial 3 day challenge, Gauteng chased down 229 in 22.4 overs to win in the last over of the match against Namibia.

Gauteng should be applauded for their effort in chasing down the total. It shows that had a desire and a will to win and succeed at all costs. Pakistan had no desire to win and succeed and they should be ashamed of their pathetic effort yesterday.

Defensive approach by a defensive captain. It was kinda expected. Poor show by Pakistan in the last two days, :facepalm

lol! give them a break dude. It was almost impossible to chase with players fielding for the whole day... Hafeez might try to attack but it was useless since Taufeeq is a genuine defensive player.

From the above match you need to know the difference between a domestic and internatinal match, I am not defending Pakistan team but it was almost impossible to chase even if they try to chase it.

As a whole it was excellent performance with the ball, good with the bat and ok in the field. They were excellent in the first innings where they took each and every catch but fourth day was bit of mess with 6 catches going down. I am too in favour that they atleast try to show the intent that they want to chase it but it in real Pakistan don't have hard hitter in this team, there is no Razzaq or Kamran Akmal in the test who can score at 8.5 rpo.... so nothing to surprise about.

If Pakistan don't improve on their catching, they will again marginalize their chances of winning. Also we must go in three seamers and one spinner. Wahab Riaz may play in place of Aizaz but Misbah is a negative captain and he may go with Abdul Rehman which is a defensive option IMHO.

Pakisan are all over Sri Lanka again with the ball but as expected they have dropped third seamer in place of a spinner. That may come back to haunt us as the game progresses.

Really poor captaincy allowing Mathews to get off the Mark with such ease :facepalm

OMG, Hafeez drops another one  WTF is he doing in slips. Misbah' stupidity and defensive mindset is so frustrating. Pakistan have totally given up on ever getting Saga out and have four fielders on the boundary ropes when he faces :facepalm:mad

----------

But it looks like Sanga has had enough of Dubai's sweltering sun and decides to gift his wicket away :p

----------

I must say Misbah's tactics are bewildering. He has long on back for number 9 and 10. He is definitely the most defensive captain to have lead Pakistan.

Am I alone here or what :D That will not stop me from blabbering.

There was once a time when knocking off the tail was no issue at all for Pakistan. Off late ever since we have lost Wasim, Waqar and Akhter, getting the tailenders out has been an issue with Pakistan bowlers. Gul should be able to do it but he blows hot and cold most of the times. Even today Sri Lankan tail is wagging and scoring vital rain aided by some stupid tactics of Misbah.

Yeah, you guys should have had them for less than 200 pretty easy. Doing wonders for Welegedara's average.

Pakistan is missing a fast bowler.. Gul is bowling around 130-138.. Even Junaid Speed is something around that..
