Pakistani Tour of New Zealand, Dec-Feb 2010/11

why did Dan step down? He is a good captain, is it pressure mounting due to the Bangladesh loss and now this? Is the Nz press calling for his head?

He isn't exactly stepping down just yet, he will captain NZ against us in the 6 ODIs, and will captain in the World Cup.

He says that he has always planned to retire since he got the captaincy in 2007, and it has nothing to do with the results. Something like that was reported in Jang.

It's a big non-event anyway, he's most likely just jumped behind the scenes to pull the strings of the next captain to lead the side.

Ryder at 4?

I miss those long sleeve days. Now just look at Jimmy Anderson's shirts.

Current trend calls for skinny stuff.

Styris has said that he wants to bat at four, so I assume Taylor will move up to three, and Ryder will drop down to five.

I was right to some extent, Taylor will bat at three and Styris will bat at four, but Franklin will bat five and McCullum will bat at six, meaning Ryder and Guptill will open.

I wouldn't be surprised if they chop and change throughout the six games though, in order to find out what works best.

Yea they'll be trying all the combinations out. Might as well given that there's 6 ODIs

What?? McCullum is actually batting six?? I didn't think he would be able to handle going down the order, I would have rather Ryder going down there instead of him though.

They're just experimenting. I hope it's Ryder that moves down the order in the end but I suppose it'll be good to see how all these different combinations work out.

Yeah exactly, in the end both Ryder and McCullum are quite capable of opening and batting 6. I'd prefer Ryder down the order myself, but I guess we'll have to wait and see what works out the best.

I think they have to give Woodcock at least 3 ODI's, so that may mean Vettori missing a few in order to play both McCullum and Woodcock.

Not too happy with the line-up, 3 "slowish" players in Younus Khan, Misbah-ul-Haq, and Asad Shafiq.

Pakistan's line up (as announced by various media sources)

1 Kamran Akmal (wk)
2 Mohammad Hafeez
3 Younus Khan
4 Asad Shafiq
5 Misbah-ul-Haq
6 Umar Akmal
7 Shahid Afridi
8 Abdul Razzaq
9 Sohail Tanvir
10 Abdur Rehman
11 Shoaib Akhtar

I feel as though Kamran Akmal should fit into the middle / lower order, and Ahmed Shehzad should open the innings (with the dropping of either Misbah, Asad, or Younus - preferably Misbah in my opinion should not play).
