Pakistani Tour of New Zealand, Dec-Feb 2010/11

So you're saying the "Misbah group" threw the match, in order to try and make Misbah captain for the World Cup?

Afridi has said he doesn't care if he's captain or not, so I don't really see how that's relevant.

If this is for me then, no i'm not saying that. I'm just saying that there could infighting going on behind the scenes which impacts the way they play.

Ofcourse he'll say that just to keep the media and the public calm. He is a much better captain than Misbah as captaincy in the limited formats require more skills than in tests. Younis was former captain so he might think he's in with a run too, so all this chaos inside the dressing room wont help.

It was more for anyone, as I didn't get how groups would have an impact, but I guess there could be some fighting behind the scenes, even though I still doubt it.

I still reckon people are taking this captaincy issue too seriously.

It's New Zealand verses Pakistan, these inconsistent results are going to happen, like the third T20I.

I can not confirm it 100% but that can happen in future. The captaincy is the most important factor at the moment I suppose. You don't put players, coaches, nation and current captain in such type of confusions keeping in mind that the big event is so near. It does affect the overall approach of the team.

In my view, Even if Pakistan loses with 6-0 Margin, The current Captain should be for the World Cup, Not saying it because I am a big fan of Afridi, No I am not. Just saying it because the timing is just not perfect.

Yeah although Misbah captained Pakistan in 4 tests but straight away sending him as a captain in such a major tournament won't be too convincing

i think Afridi is also not serious about his captaincy.team was down and you were still playing those silly shots, rubbish.i know you are afridi, but if you cant change yourself then we have to change our skipper

if players are against you,not performing, take a game in your hands and show everybody that who is wrong and who is right

----------

I am 100% sure that nobody will ask to change the captain if Afridi performs and others dont and pak loose because it won't be his fault

But we should also take the examples of other teams. Greme Smith has been captaining the side since 2003, They loose lot of crunch matches but he is still the captain. Newzeland has been losing all the way consistently with teams like Bangladesh, But Have they changed Vettori and Vettori isnt a a very great performer I suppose.

Indian got out from the first round by losing to little Bangladesh, But they didnt changed Dhoni.

I dont think so that there is any way PCB should think to change the captain at this stage. I hope Afridi will soon realize about his batting performance.

Dhoni was not the captain then!!

Yeah it was Dravid and they changed him not right after the world cup but after a few time

But Afidi has been a failure from a long time if you take out his 2 hundreds last year and then see his stats those are awful.A captain should be a performer atleast a Pakistani captain

why the hell does everyone think Afridi is a batsman. He is a freaken bowler and a really good one at that. Enough to justify his place in the team. Then his one off bursts are just an added bonus.

His average is still in the mid 20s, so you have to say he is a bowling allrounder.

And he did consume 35 deliveries for his 15 runs. How many times have you seen that from Afridi. So he did curb his natural instincts sufficiently. And he got out on a good rising delivery....

Last year in 13 matches Afridi has conceded 725 runs and picked up just 12 wickets with an average of more than 60 i am afraid that's not his batting average.still a good bowler? i was talking about his recent performance he hasn't done anything special.A team which has been passing through a worst period of their history doesnt need even a player who's performance is such poor.and how then we make him a skipper and you still say that he is a bowling all rounder see his average last year. His bowling has gone down very much since he has become a skipper

Well i think you haven't seen the match see it again and tell me how many times he tried to go over the top.it was his lack of ability that he wasn't able to connect it properly.he was dismissed 2 or 3 overs ago but oram saved him by dropping a catch.Afridi can't change then we have to change our captain as i had said before.if you are not serious about your team then you should leave.that's not an excuse that he is a bowling all rounder. We have seen some great innings from him as well.He can play better if he has a sense.but he is not seroius about his team.the team had lost 5 wickets and you are still not able to control your instinct that's rubbish

get your facts straight. In year 2010 he played 18 matches and took 19 wickets at an average of 45. That is high than his normal standards but then his batting average was also 33.5, which is good enough for a number 6-7 at a strike rate of 144!!

The problem is that you criticize Afridi that he has no temperament, while as fans we do not show any temperament when criticizing him. If for anything, I would still retain him as captain for the fighting spirit that he induced in the team after one captain (Yousuf) was totally lethargic and the other is a freaken match fixer.

I would always take a captain who is passionate about the game and can rally his team around him. One defeat and you guys forgot how with extremely depleted resources and off-field distractions he still led the cornered tigers against a much formidable England and South Africa. and before that he made 2 fighting centuries in asia cup (or tri-series, don't remem), and before that he won us the T20 World Cup. Oh, how easily you guys forget.

I geninunely feel that Shahid Afridi can play sensibly and he has done that in the past but only few times. I agree that he got to increase his temperament level and play a responisble innings. I am very hopeful that he will soon starting to perform well with the bat particularly, even if not upto the mark. He is the best motivator and leader in the team.

It was Shahid Afridi's leadership qualities, his motivating and courageous efforts and Pakistan was able to level the ODI Series against England considering the enormous pressure Pakistani had on their heads and similar case was repeated in the series against South Africa. I am very hopeful that against newzeland, The Team will bounce back and Insha-Allah we will win this ODI Series and go to the World Cup with high spirits.

Jamie How will come into the side for the next match, not sure who will drop out though, or where he'll play. Don't think he'll be keeping though.
