Update

Pakistan 212/5 at lunch on Day 3. Details tomorrow morning when I come back from work.

P.S: Inzi and Amir both made 50s and Inzi is still not out at 51.

Pakistan speed things up but lose wicket in the process

At the beginning of the third day, Pakistani batsmen got to play at a nice and dry pitch. But neither one of them were able to take advantage of this good batting pitch. Nazir, who had closed in on his half-century after hitting a couple of boundaries, finally got out as he tried to play a square cut but instead edged the ball back to the keeper. Just in the next over, Giles was able to get his first wicket as Malik hit one in the air into the bowler's hands.

Inzamam and Yousuf Youhana were now batting. The latter put up some quick runs for Pakistan before getting bowled out by Hoggard. Pakistan 122/4.

Youhana's wicket made way for a wonderful partnership between the captain and the inexperienced Amir that was kick started by the latter as he hit Hoggard for three boundaries on the first three deliveries he faced. But even after hitting Hoggard for 15 runs, Amir didn't show any signs of slowing down. Inzamam, inspired by Amir's batting, started playing aggressively as well and beat Amir to a half-century but Amir soon followed getting his 50 in just 31 balls.

Fortunately for England, this partnership wasn't going to last much longer. Just after reaching his 50, Amir played a lazy shot through mid-wicket that was caught by Hoggard, who took a diving catch to dismiss Amir.

At lunch Pakistan were 212/5. Here are the stats:

Pakistan 212/5 (53 overs) - Lunch (Day 3)
I. Haq 51*(70) | K. Akmal 0*(4)
England lead by 69

Inzamam at his best puts Pakistan on top

Sorry for the delay guys. Overtime at work kept me very busy.

If you thought Vaughan and Amir's centuries were great in the last test match, or Flintoff's inning was breath-taking, hold on to your hats. Inzi is here to blow you away!!!

After Amir's dismissal, Vaughan was hoping for things to quiet down a bit and things to go in England's favor again. His wishes seemed to be coming true when Flintoff struck again, this time taking Kamran Akmal's wicket right after he had hit the all-rounder for a boundary.

But Akmal's dismissal only spelled doom for England, for it gave way to a seemingly unstoppable partnership between Inzamam and spinner Saqlain Mushtaq. From the time Akmal got out to the time tea break came along, all Saqlain did was defend damn near every delivery while Inzamam kept scoring off of damn near every delivery he faced. In no time at all, Inzi had taken his score past 100 and then 150!!

By tea time, Pakistan had already taken their lead past 80 runs.

Pakistan 362/6 (81 overs) at Tea (Day 3)
I. Ul-Haq 168*(170) | S. Mushtaq 28*(63)
Pakistan lead by 81 runs

Good aggressive batting there by Inzamam, and he is being well supported by Mushtaq. 81 runs lead already, and four more wickets left.

Pakistan declare at 421

Just a few minutes into play after tea, Flintoff struck again taking Saqlain's wicket to end this 157 run partnership. But that didn't stop Inzi from getting closer and closer to his double century.

A few overs after Saqlain's dismissal, Inzamam reached his 200 with a strike rate of more than a 100.

But he didn't last long at the crease after reaching this milestone. Inzi misjudged a sharp-turning delivery from Giles as he tried to sweep him for four and instead ended up giving his wicket away at a superb score of 214.

In a surprise move, Inzamam decided to declare the inning with a lead of 140 runs.

Pakistan 421/8 d (92 overs)
I. Ul-Haq 214 (215) | M. Amir 54 (34) | A. Flintoff 19.0-1-92-3
Pakistan lead by 140 runs

England in trouble as they lose early wickets

With more than two days of play left, England came in to bat with Pakistan leading by 140 runs. There was a bit of criticism aimed at Inzamam's decision to declare so early, but lets see how this pans out.

Despite a good first two overs, England had a very shaky start to the inning as they lost some crucial wickets by the end of the day. First to go was Strauss who edged one to the slips in an attempt to drive one through covers.

After Strauss's dismissal things actually seemed to go in England's favor as both Trescothick and Butcher put on some quick runs off of Akhter and Sami. But all this progress came to a halt due to a comical runout that got rid of Trescothick.

With both openers gone and England now at 47/2, Danish Kaneria came in to bowl his first over and left England's batting line-up in shambles. On his very first ball he forced Butcher to give up an easy catch to Shoaib Malik at silly point, and then a few balls later Kaneria struck again as a sharp turning leg spinner got rid of Thorpe leaving England at 47/4 at the end of the day.

If Pakistani bowlers can keep this up, winning this match from here shouldn't be a problem. England on the other hand can only hope for a draw from here on.

England 47/4 (13 overs) - Stumps (Day 3)
M. Vaughan 0*(6) | A. Flintoff 0*(2)
Pakistan lead by 93 runs

England facing an innings defeat here, but they still have people who can bat and bat for long durations.

But a series win repeat of 2001 seems unlikely now.
