Just base it on the ratings when you do them, i.e. players above this batting rating are considered batsmen/all-rounders, and players above this bowling rating are considered bowlers/all-rounders, that's what I do anyway.

fearsome tweak, I can't decide on my next player I have 3 players (2 pretty much the same, both can keep, both have much the same averages and played test cricket) or a batsman whose average is slightly less but I know should get a decent boost to his rating.

Fawad Alam's opened in two out of three of his tests, but I think he's a middle order player by trade. I'll probably be opening with him though, due to all my middle order talent.

Yeah, he is naturally a middle order batsman. Normally bats at #3.

And Chewie, you realise you could just make the players opening batsman and give them a bowling rating?
