Planetcricket IC10 Q&A thread discussion

But the big question is are codemasters gonna make it editable they even did not use a simple format for pc to make it editable only abbh made it possible then how you expect the console version to be editable:noway

I don't think you got my point. Editing a cricket game is least of most peoples concerns when the gameplay has been so broken.

gameplay can also be edited if it is broken

How do you work that one out considering people are still complaining about how bad ashes cricket is still now 8-9 months later, if it could be edited why has no one done this?
I know because it cant that is what the patches were intended for....

I keep pointing to NCAA football here, you go online, to this page and you can create a team, kit, logo and roster all with a web interface. This can then be downloaded in game by anyone.

That is amazing. That's the only way to mod a console game, you have to work inside the space developers allow you. Littlebigplanet also makes use of this feature, you can create a level and anybody else can download that level and play. Upcoming Modnation Racers is also built on the same idea.

that is because codies did not make it patching friendly see cricket 07 for example it was edited by tutsi and abbh and many others and made it so good also now maybe when abbh makes the full version editor gameplay can be edited

EA didn't make it patching friendly either. The only reason Cricket 07, and Cricket 05 before it are easily editable was because it used the same engine as much more common EA Sports games (there's a reason you got FSHed from a NHL site), meaning there was much more effort on making it editable, think a team of people with AbBh's skills and working on it over many more years.

If AC09 had been the engine for a bunch of other more popular sports games, you would be guaranteed that it would have had much more comprehensive editing. Once you work out all the file formats, everything is editable.

Ok i understood
but what do companies gain by not making a game patching friendly or using more proprietary formats .infact there game will be popular if it is editable

Lots of things. Off the top of my head:
  • not wanting people to see how your game works
  • files in a folder-file structure take up more space on disk than packing it all into one file.
  • data can often be streamed more quickly/efficiently when loading from one file rather than lots. This is especially important when loading from an optical all the time, like on consoles.
  • if releasing on PC, it's more likely people can muck up their install if the files are all "out in the open". If there is one large file, people are less likely to delete/change it unless they know what they're doing.
  • licensing issues may prohibit them from making the game easily editable. Remember that they're not allowed to put the England/Australia teams into the in-game Player Editor for this reason.
  • cross-platform development may be made easier by having everything in one file - you write your own cross-platform functions to access data in that file, rather than using the system-specific file-handling functions.

I'm sure there are more.

by the sounds of all the editing talks, i could give you all pacman and you'd turn it into a decent cricket game

Yeah, trouble with that is that Pacman always eats the ball. Which is a bummer unless you are playing Pakistan!:)

i am sure if pacman was a cricket game with bad gameplay but fully editable gameplay means every value is editable some geniuses of our forum would have turned it into a decent cricket game

why there is no scorecard at the bottom of screen?

why they are making the old box style scorecard at the left of screen...... game will not look on-field until they make the appearance like new scorecards........ action cam is good but they have to think on this too...........

Yes, the lack of competition in the market is not an excuse, but the realities are that if Codemasters don't see the game as viable, you are left with near-amateur games like Cricket Revolution, or games that are years away and will likely disappoint regardless, like Cricket Life and TAOC.
.
