Players who didn't reach their full potential

One for me is Shahid Afridi, how much God has given him talent, he only used like 30% of it and that's not only me saying but players like, Imran, Gavaskar, Miandad, Boon, Richard etc etc have said this before.

Mark Waugh probably could have averaged more but many many times did he lead the way with the bat regardless. He still has one of the best hundreds I have witnessed.

Best looking player in terms of his technique as well.

310 wickets is definitly close to full potential. No idea why he averages that high, he is definitly a much better bowler than that

He has had bad patches where he just bowls rubbish without pace. Like the last Test he played at the WACA.

But that is mostly because of injury, if his body was perfect, he would of been much better. But that can also be said for a lot of bowlers.

It is because Brett Lee is a wicket taker in its purest form. He doesn't tie up an end he goes for 3.5 an over which is very high for test cricket but he takes wickets at a better strike rate than Curtly Ambrose.

Averages alone don't often tell the whole story and with Lee certainly. probably the equivalent of a 27-28 av bowler in reality.

Marlon Samuels is another WI player, lots of talent and just when he starts showing some of it he gets banned.

Mark Waugh, I think I'd have to say he did fulfill his potential, he did what he wanted and retired pretty much when he wanted. Hard to argue against 20 test tons and 18(?) one day tons, he was truly magnificent to watch particularly in the early to mid 90's. His ton in 1991 vs a menacing WI attack was awesome. I'll never forget the MCG ton in 1992 vs WI where he started this mad technique of backing away to leg when facing ambrose and Bishop, and cutting over the keepers head. His 1997 ton vs SA in the 2nd test was one of the greatest match winning knocks in the history of Australian cricket.

In one day cricket his brilliant innings in the 96 WC pretty much got us to the final, 3 tons was a great effort.

So talented, just never really played a team game.

As in, knuckling down and grinding it out innings after innings. He was more of a flamboyant stroke player.

It seems.

Harbhajan Singh.

He was outstanding when he made his debut, but is only a shadow of his former self now. God knows what has happened to Bhajji! He has been inconsistent ever since Kumble's retirement in 2008.

Thats pretty silly mate- never played a team game- he wasnt KP, i dont know where thats coming from, he was a great team player. He wasnt that flamboyant, he always played the same tempo, but his strike rate was never that high. He did play over 100 tests, you cant last that long in the number one team if you are a soft player. His reputation early on was that he got out to soft dismissals, but that all changed around 1995, and he played some fantastic team saving/grinding innings from then on- the 111 vs Pak in 96, the awesome 116* to save the test in 98 vs SA. He was easy on the eye, but that shouldnt be mistaken for carelessness or a lack of commitment, Gower was the same. The other factor is that he played in a team where he was at number 4 and mostly always came in when the score was well over 2/100 and didnt need to grind it out. When you had Taylor and Boon batting before him it was his job to push things along.

Ok, maybe it just didn't come out right. Well it defo didn't.

I didn't mean for him to be KP like, I meant more than he played a lot of shots, and his concentration wavered occasionally.

Team player wasn't the right noun to use.

nearly half of the pakistani team...

akhtar
afridi -soo talented but never used his brain
sami - extremely talented but couldnt control his line...short and wide or either to full
shabbir ahmed -had alot of potential...lost it when he remodel his action
Taufeeq Umar - an average of 40...but still he was useless when it mattered
anwar ali -was really good in the U-19...got huge swing....he is hopeless these days....bowling pies
Yasir Hameed - this guy deserves to be in the team but Politics got the better of him

Irfan Pathan - the future Kapil Dev went down the toilet as his pace crashed in a space of mere months. Tremendously gifted player, both with the bat and ball. Hope he gets a comeback, IMO he's the best all round option we have.
