Politics Discussion (India)

Why is Dr. Shashi Tharoor not the leader of the Congress Party? He seems an extremely competent and intelligent person.

Most of the people believe that due to nepotism only Gandhi family has headed the party.

But if we do a proper research, it's clear that whenever a non-gandhi has led the party, there has been no stability in regular operations. Best example is Sitaram Kesari.

Not just Shashi Tharoor but there are many competent leaders in the party to head the AICC. Ex: Capt. Amarinder Singh, Sachin Pilot, Mukul Wasnik, Ghulam Nabi Azad, etc... Again, there won't be stability in the party if non-gandhi becomes president. You may say that the loyalists of Gandhi Family are responsible. But you can't deny the fact that 50% of votes are casted in the name of Gandhi-Nehru.

Even if the Gandhi's step back and make way for non-gandhi as party president, people won't agree to that preposition. When Rahul Gandhi resigned and asked Congress Working Committee to pick non Gandhi president, they refused to do so and picked Sonia Gandhi again as interim chief.

Isn’t the Gandhi family unpopular with the voters at large though?

Yes, but they do have their traditional vote base in rural areas. Only the urban and semi urban population have switched to BJP.

What astonishes me the most is that people who blamed Congress for Petrol/Deisel price (Rs.66 in 2012) are now happy with Rs.100 by BJP govt. Only catch here is that the crude oil price was very high in international market back then while it is half the rate now, still the price hike.

An actor turned politician who danced on the roads for LPG price of Rs.450 during UPA term and now she is Union Minister and she doesn't even care as the price hiked at Rs. 850.

Hypocrisy :facepalm

It’s always like that with nationalist movements. The only thing that matters is the end objective.

Predictions for Bengal?

From the look of things (and that is something BJP is a master at given the media at their disposal), it appears that Mamta will be on her way out.

Pretty disgusting to see them promise free vaccines if they win.

Won't be talking about election result prediction. But want to highlight few things.

Our PM empathizes on Covid surge in India and ironically forgets that he too was involved in 16 rallies in West Bengal to campaign for BJP candidates setting aside all the Covid restrictions set by his own govt.

He promised to setup 160 oxygen plants across the country last year with the PM Cares funds and only 32 seem to be functioning so far. Without even thinking about the Indians, he exports a huge quantity of Covid/HCQ Vaccines to U.S. But having known what he has done to Joe Biden last year - "Abki Baar, Trump Sarkar" (Vote for Trump Governance), now he expects help from America. US has stocked excess vaccine shots than it actually requires. Biden Administration said that they prioritise Americans first. They are preparing themselves for future, which is absolutely correct. Head of country always choses his people first. Now we have Modi Army trending #AmericaExposed #BycottAmerica etc...

Our PM exported millions of vaccine shots before his own people could even use it. When CMs called PMO for help regarding Oxygen supplies, they were told that PM is away campaigning in Bengal. Like seriously??? People are dying here and our PM is busy with elections.

Finally, he does what he does the best - join his hands, request people and show solidarity after everything has escalated due to his own negligence. Politics aside, every life matters. Instead of building a 3000 cr statue which is good for nothing, you could've atleast built Oxygen plants/ Multi speciality Hospitals/ Schools / Primary health centers etc..

Absolutely disappointed by the way our govt handled this Covid situation. When the cases dropped in the month of October last year, you take full credits for it. Well, good for you. But do you have guts to take responsibility for complete mismanagement now? No. Now the Modi supporters say "what can he do now? It is not his fault". If you can take credit for good things, take criticisms and blames for wrong doings too.

I'm sorry for my language above. Have lost many loved ones in this Covid times. :( We have wasted all the time we had last year to prepare ourselves for this second wave. Atleast we can try to be more cautious in the coming days. Be safe, and take care of your people. :)
