Posting Quality

Perhaps if the abbreviations are causing headaches, then a filter could be introduced that automatically changes common chat speak like " u " to "you" "lyk" to "like" etc. etc. That would do some cleaning of posts at least...

Good idea mate, but we shouldn't need to have it happening to start with. That's what MSN is for :)

I'd just like to say, I have the most authority on the subject, because I will have been here for 4 years come this October :p

Yeah but I have more posts

Chopping and changing moderators would do no good. We members should use the report button more. To be honest, I haven't used it yet. Whenever we see substandard posts, we should immediately report them. I will do this from now on.

Most useful post in the thread for mine. Its not exactly the first time I've been on a forum where people complain about the quality of the forum going downhill when the people complaining usually do absolutely nothing to help the situation. As HP fan has said in the quoted post, whenever you see a post that includes text talk or has absolutely nothing to do with the topic, report them immediately and someone will take action.

As far as the overall quality of the members goes, I think its completely unfair to blame members of any one nationality on this issue (especially when respected members who are supposed to have English as their first language rarely type it correctly). There are members registering from all over the world that can't seem to type well, be it from India, England, Australia, etc. The fact of the matter is that PC will always be one of those sites that attracts a much younger demographic of posters than what most other cricket sites do. This means there will always a great number of young posters who act immature and bring down the quality of the forum, many of them mature and turn into great contributors, others break all time spamming records and get themselves mod-previewed/banned.

I agree with people who have said that the moderation team has been much too soft on the spammers, but I can assure you that the admin team has noticed this and things will get tougher around here for a lot of these people.

Thank you

Corruption thread v.2? Who's for going all un-origional and copy Duff's (and mines) effort? :p

I would just like to say that I do agree. You can't blame it one nation and I'm not saying that as you will see from the first post. I personally am quite happy to see them trying to speak English and I know its not there first language but hopefully they pick up a few things a long the way.

I'm not saying that is the problem its the whole use of text talk and in general useless posts that dont contribute anything to the discussion and I reported a post earlier pointing this out.

Eagerly waiting for someone to report this post in the spirit of the thread. :p

Its likely :p

The thing is, although members can use the report button, it shouldn't fall on our shoulders. The admin team ask/employ, whatever you want to call it, mods and globies for the sole purpose of keeping the forum in harmony. It hasn't been the case of late, now i'm not saying its anyones fault, i'm simply saying that it shouldnt rest solely on our shoulders as members.

I think that the problem isn't text speak, it's overall quality. They just go hand in hand sometimes.

I have decided I would Like to put a bit of input in here.

As I know, I used to be a pretty poor poster on forums, but I have no changed from 'text talk' And I think I have a way to stop it.

On most forums you can have a 'word ban' and if some one posted a banned word, the administrators can make it so it changes.

For example.

lyk is a banned word, so if some one posts lyk, with the word ban it could be changed to Like without the staff having to go through every post and changing it all.

Just a suggestion.

Well obviously not, and that's certainly not something that was implied in my post. Not really sure how I can prove to anyone what kind of an effort we put in to keeping the forum as tidy as possible as most, if not all, of it is done behind the scenes and all you see is the end result. There is a list of moderator stats which tells us how many mod actions have been performed by whom and I can tell you that most current mods have actions in thousands, and in some cases mods have more mod actions than posts.

To summarize, we do our best but only ask that the responsible members do their part and report posts in order to help us tidy up the forums.

Yes, I totally agree with all of you : the posting in downloads section is pathetic.About 60% of the users there are new & post in wierd languages.

here are is an example :

can_any_1_GIVE_ME_iRISH(IRELAND)_TEAM_KIT_CODE...FOR...FSH..FILE...PLZ...REPLY
ITS..NOT..IN..THE..LIST....

vikas_raik added 1 Minutes and 38 Seconds later...

can_any_1_GIVE_ME_iRISH(IRELAND)_TEAM_KIT_CODE...FOR...FSH..FILE...PLZ...REPLY
ITS..NOT..IN..THE..LIST

There are many more examples to post but I am not going to post them all :p

To solve this problem we need very strict moderating in the downloads forum especially.

Cheers,
Prnv

I think you should give the staff some credit. There is so much of these crap posts that they have to deal with. They take care of 3/4 of them, it's not their fault they can't get rid of them all. After all they're only human and they do a better job than most of us could do.
