Posting Quality

Can people on this thread stop stating baseless information as if it were fact? Click on my username, and find more posts by this user or whatever it is, and I'm as bad as anyone around here. I post rubbish.

On the point though, there are a lot of different cultures merging on this forum, and not everyone is going to find every post easy to understand. Some of the people around here are idiots, but they tend to be the ones that mature up a bit and a year or two later are among the best posters around. The mods around here give a long leash to everyone and it works well. If you don't think that people are posting quality then you're looking in the wrong threads. Stop complaining about the downloads section and just steal the downloads. It's what I've always done and it should work for you too.

I have to apologize.

Although I haven't been 'txt spking', the quality of my posts have diminished since around June.

I will get back to my regular posting ways, and try to keep the spam in the Donkey's thread. :p

Cheers.

Ah, the Donkeys thread. If I were a mod I would've closed that so hard the thread's metaphorical door would be too scared to ever open again. For not closing it, mods, I salute you.

Okay people are viewing this thread differently than I intended.

I am not talking about the people and sorry for the generalisation(sp?) but mainly the members from the sub-continent where English mainly isnt taught. These arent the people I am talking about, as I said they are understandable and they usually pick up the language along the way, like tassie said.

The main ones I am talking about are the ones like pranav said and the people who use a lot of text talk.

The one thing I do disagree with tassie is the 'long lead' given by the mods/admins it means they take longer to mature but if there was a stricter leash then they would mature a lot quicker.

The mods/admins do a very good job and I thank them for it! But this is a feedback and suggestions forum and thats what this thread is about!

Thats probably one example I have given you.You will find loads of them if you visit Download section often.

The thing is pranav there not just in the Downloads forum. If you take a look around the ICC forum aswell and slowly its moving into the cricket chat section.

Sorry.I can not comment on this as I dont go to those sections.(these are the only sections which I dont visit.)

The main thing is that we need to stop it somehow or the other. The mods are trying their best but more strict moderating could help stop this.

I think, don't give them warnings, but ban them. I think you need to implement a yellow/red card system. Just like on another forum I go on. Say you spam a lot, or you do something that's not within the rules, give them a yellow card. This will stop them from being able to post the thread. If they do it again, or whine about their decision, give them a red for a week which bans them from the forum.

We have mod-preview and a banning system in place. You won't see mod-preview in action, we do, it works. Many members benefit from being put on it, others aren't. I don't think the problem is with the new members, I'd say it is with the old guard, in relation to spamming. Again though, you won't see the many deleted posts that we do. There has been a significant increase in the amount of 'spam' deleted of late. Repeat offenders are given warnings by us, if they don't heed those warnings they are placed on mod-preview, if that doesn't sort them they get banned, etc.

A forum will always go through peaks and troughs.

I don't understand why people can't write normally like I am in this post. If they say 'plz' and 'u' and '4(for)' then they should have enough knowledge to fix those words.

Yay another revolt. Seriously why do people do this? If you've got a problem with someone take it up with someone personally.

BTW all the mods are crap the admins are robots (they told me), all no mods and admins are idiots who have no friends and homosexuals are gay.

If they used a shorter leash then they would be called 'Nazi mods' and there would be a big 'Us vs. Them' situation spreading among the board. I think they do well to moderate when absolutely necessary, while at the same time remaining among us non-moderating plebs. I think it's a good blend. The posting quality is not the mods' fault IMO.

As others have mentioned using the report feature is so helpful to us. Whenever I log on the first thing I will see is a 'Post report', it's in red font for those interested. Just beneath my PM box. It makes our jobs so much easier. Think of it like a real life situation. Would you expect the police to be of any use of no-one reported crimes? It's the same thing on here. Minus the stab-proof vests and perfectly ironed shirts. If you see something you don't like, report it. It doesn't take long, and I know we can deal with the situation a lot quicker if you do report something.

I'd also say, I'd much rather people reported a post, than made a post replying to a post, which breaks the rules. We miss things and we don't get everything right. That's why we have a staff room, so we can get a overview of staff opinions on certain matters.

I have noticed an increase in the amount of text talk on these forums, I get quite disappointed when I see the poster has a couple of thousand posts. Most people who use text talk, won't be using it in a couple of months, they get used to every one else speaking in proper English.

I will readily admit that I have been too soft, very recently in fact. Since then (literally a few days ago) I have been stricter. Though I do find that a lot of the times when I have to deal with someone, a nice, relaxed "word in their ear" will work a fair deal of the time, not all of the time though.

All suggestions are welcome, obviously, otherwise we wouldn't have this forum. But please don't think we don't try, because it's not the case.

Revolt - People protesting and trying to change what they dont agree with.
Internet Revolt - People who have nothing better to do on the first monday of the summer holidays on a hot day.

I am one of those members who has benefited from mod preview although I must admit my post quality does chop and change sometimes but i'm not perfect I like everyone else has their flaws.

One member who posts in "txt spk" is Ankurcshah, i've been tracing his posts and I can't understand some of the things he posts.

I feel we should use the report post button more often instead of complaining all the time, I mainly report a post when one member creates account after account after account and advertises WOW sites.
Action has been taken eventually so we need to use that more often.

Well if he's got better surely everyone has the hope so we could in theory all be on the way to brilliant forum where sun is shining from all angles.

In other news its hot and sunny get outside you losers!
