Well I watched all four games yesterday, and thoroughly enjoyed all of them.
Even though I'm half Scottish in the first game I was going for Romania. It all fell apart once they took their captain off though, I just can't understand why you would sub off your captain and your best player when you're up by three points. Yes Scotland came right in the last 10 minutes, but I think Romania got it tactically wrong.
In the second game I actually missed about a quarter of it, but again it was great to see the underdog somewhat mixing it with a bigger team. Fiji were too powerful in the end, and their winner had an absolute blinder, but Namibia were very good in patches.
In the third game I'm pretty sure every neutral in the world was going for Japan, but like Scotland did France came good near the end. Japan were very impressive though, and I think there was only positive signs for them heading towards the 2019 world cup in Japan. There was some incredible goal line defense from Japan as well during the middle stages.
I'm glad I watched the final game ahead of the woeful Warriors. It was a typical Northern Hemisphere/Argentina game really, with only one try. I'm not sure what was up with the kickers in near perfect conditions, Wilkinson had close to what would have to be his worst game ever, while the Pumas couldn't buy kicks to go over. England were shocking though, and I can't see them mixing it with the All Blacks at Eden Park.
I can understand the frustration, but when the ref doesn't really have many options when the two teams are continually giving away penalties. I think 95% of the time he got it spot on.
That England lock (number five) should have been red carded. I'm not sure if he had a license to just go out and put cheap shots on the Pumas, but he had two late shots and them blatantly dived in late with his knees into one of the Pumas.
Three more good games coming up today. It'll be interesting to see how Australia go, and then how the USA go in what's bound to be a heavily emotional match ten years on from 9/11. Most eyes will be on the final match though, as we still look for that first upset.
