I don't believe Aamer should be shown leniency due to inexperience. Amin and Riaz are also inexperienced, and both look like they have a lot of talent, so why isn't anybody jumping to their defence?

The only reason Aamer could be shown leniency is if he was forced to do it, but right now, it looks like he knew exactly what he was doing. I've been secretly hoping he bowled those big no-balls with the intention of getting caught(thus the reason they're so big, but it's most probably just due to inexperience), but with him coming out and denying the allegations, I doubt that could ever be the case.

The odds are very against Amir.
The video clearly shows that Amir without a doubt was involved.
He knows everything that is going on and I doubt he's a big of an idiot enough to deny the allegations without having some kind of proof that he wasn't involved. I think the youngsters if caught should be shown a little leniency if the seniors (Butt, Akmal) impacted his decision.

Take out the punishment on him and make him play for Bangladesh/Zimbabwe!
That would be good cause those teams will not play high profile series' and chances of match fixing cases would be less. Assuming he's a corrupt, he won't be having chance to have a chat with Bookies.

OR

Gift him the punishment which everyone involved in the scam gets! (See Biggy's reason, I second it.)

lol you call that punishment? Bangladesh players can catch better than Pakistani players. Infact he will get more wickets playing for Bangladesh than he did for Pakistan.

Show him leniency, ban the others for life but only ban him for 23 years.

It will be a big loss for cricket if he's banned forever, come on he's proven that he's got it in him to be a legend of the game and it's obvious that the senior 'cheaters' have had a bad influence on him but I do believe he deserves punishment for this act (if proven) but not a life ban.

with what has been in the press for a while and the exact rules, I think he will get a 5 year ban and some sort of fine. Asif and Butt will be handed life bans, as Asif has been in all kind of mess you can think a player can land into. And well Butt was the captain.....

He is off the award list. + min. of 1-2 years ban waiting for.

At first I was caught up with emotions and wanted leniency shown towards Aamer, but now that I think about it, I would not want a match fixer to represent my country. We've seen what happened when leniency was shown towards Asif...there is absolutely no guarantee that Aamer will come clean after a minimal ban... Ban him for life, and set an example.

I don't think M Aamer should be shown any leniency.
Atleast a 5 year ban should come his way.

Teenagers are more passionate abot their passions than money, that's just a shameful act by Aamer. He is a terrific bowler for sure, but after these cts, he should be banned.

Owzat, that is ridiculous. You want him banned for 23 years? May as well just ban him for life.

He should only be banned for 22 years.

Was just about to say "whooooooooooooooooooosh, that passed right over your head" - nice recovery ;)

Should M Aamer be shown leniency if found guilty?

NO

straight forward answer

18 is old enough to make decisions and he clearly made the wrong ones. Also I think he is a brat (the way he ran into Clarke & Ponting, you don't see many young guys doing such things) and now we find that he is greedy as well. I agree with Params that he still deserves serious punishment, not as much as Butt though.

the aussie mentality shows again LOL

:facepalm

Anyway my opinion is just stop Pakistan from playing any sport. ever.

Here is my reason; When you get wealthy Pakistan players all they do is try to get even more wealthy by running scams and when you get the poor ones like Asif from bad poor backgrounds all they want to do is run scams so they can get wealthy. It's just how Pakistani's are they take shortcuts for everything; DQ them from cricket completely or make them play in some league but then they'd ruin that too

^A perfect example of how someone gives an opinion on a topic they know nothing about. You must have done masters in generalization to give such a stupid statement.

15 years

Pakistanis never learn, they are a farce of world cricket

No need for such a long thread, guys. Really.

edIT; actually, after actually having read the first post, the thread is a good idea. However, the conclusion is still concrete.
