Solve your computer problem with the help of experts!

W32 Agent tries to connect to an IRC server and then listens for commands, you need to run some antivirus software and get it removed.

Depending on the variant the file copies itself to several locations, and attempts to create other files. Also it will be hiding in your registry, without specific details of which variant it is I am unable to advise specific removal instructions.

Obviously you are running eset, but this looks like it is unable to deal with it, try AVG, Avast!, Kasperspy or something else.

Does Eset have an option to run a boot scan? If so try that, it might not be able to remove it while its running.

I think I have a solution for this :

qwerks.com | Web Safety Ratings from McAfee SiteAdvisor
ThreatExpert Report: Adware-CoolBar, CnsMin

I would advise that you do a system scan for spyware and viruses. Use spybot, and Nod32 for a full system scan.

Did you recently go on any mp3convertor website??
Code:
Other information

    * Title: Internet Assistant
    * URL of the download publisher: http://www.mp3converter.net/players/index.html
    * URL of the download: http://www.qwerks.com/download/3748/merak.zip
    * Filename: merak.zip
    * File size: 2116593
    * Full checksum (MD5): e5460ed1ac31e9d253452e4debfc6c74
    * SiteAdvisor Program ID: 1281982
    * SiteAdvisor last tested this download: 2008 September
    * SiteAdvisor last verified this link: 2008 March

Go to add/remove programs, and look for Internet Assistant. Remove that.

Thanks a lot Kev and Abhas. Abhas the description at McAfee Siteadvisor pretty much matches the symptoms here.

When I checked in msconfig, there was indeed a program called 'helper'. Sure enough there was a program called mp3converter in the Add Remove panel. This computer is used by others as well, though it belongs to me. I was pretty upset when this happened because as far as viruses are concerned I make no exceptions at all. And suddenly there was this worm on my computer, I was totally nuts!! And I'm not even sure that Eset would have let this slip when the file was being downloaded or installed...

Did you scan your computer?? I hope ESET will be able to remove it.. If there's a problem, let me know. This seems to be a long removal process..

OK, I've probably posted this problem before also but I would like to update the situation.

Current Problems:
* Crackling sound frm Speakers
* A bit of lagging mouse

For around last 2 months or so my PC was running top notch then suddenly my PC got really slow and once after a power cut (indians can understand what generally happens in our country :p) My windows got corrupt so I had to format & re-install Windows (only 2 days have passed) now again after a power cut I have started receiving crackling sound from my speakers and mouse is lagging a bit. Sound is crackling at the startup sound and when I start a game or starting application when one is already running. Another problem is sometimes the Hard Disk is not being able to read as bootable device when I check my BIOS then it only shows my DVD drive no HDD then after when I remove the SATA & Power cable to HDD and re-apply them then it detects the HDD and sometimes wice-a-versa(:lol dunno spelling). I am really getting mad about this problem as sometimes I have to lose some very important data. What is the exact problem ? Is it my PSU overloading or its the HDD ? :confused::what

Here is my PC specs:

I have bought a new hard disk 180GB and I already have 80 GB hard disk.
Will this effect my gaming speed more
OR
I should upgrade my RAM from 768 MB to 1.5GB.
And 1 more question
How can I take full advantage of this another hardisk? like if I transfer window on 80 GB hard & transfer all games on 180 GB harddsik , Will this work to increase my gaming experience?

Hard disk will not affect your Gaming Speed but still 1.5 to 2GB RAM is required to play latest games so its best you buy a 2GB RAM.

No the gaming experience wont change by just transfering OS or games from one directory to other.But keeping OS one one HDD and games and other applications on other one is recommended.

Omkar.. connect your speakers to some mp3 player, or an external source to make sure the speakers are working fine.
By the looks of things, it could be a problem with the PSU. You don't use a UPS ??

Actually if I format my PC and re-install Windows speakers will work perfect. I will have to get a new UPS for that I am using one but its too old It turns off before my PC :laugh:watchtv

Hello, Recently over the past few days I have been realising that my computer has been lagging a lot, including my internet. Internet Explorer simply doesn't work because when I click on it it just doesn't load anyhow and Mozilla Firefox works but lags and crashes big time. Like when I minimise it and open it again it always happens as 'Not Responding'. Have I got some sort of virus? Because when I tried accessing security center from Control Panel, It just wouldn't load either and Norton is just crap. Anyone know how I can get my Computer back to normal?

Here is the list of stuff I have installed on my Computer.

Try Cleaning the registry as well as freeing up HD space and defragging it. Also run a virus scan and uninstall useless items. CCleaner and Regcure are very good registry cleaners. You can defrag ur HD by using Windows defrag and also download Spybot S&D as it can get rid of crap as well.

Thanks MacWorld, You're a gun. Doing that (cleaning the registry of unwanted crap), Has sped up my computer and internet considerably back to normal. However IE still doesn't work, But I don't really care that much tbh...
