Solve your computer problem with the help of experts!

If he would have simply deleted the autorun.ini file in all his partitions, he would not have needed to install windows a hundred times :p

Okay guys, my computer is totally flinged up. After having formatted the C-drive two times, it's still not totally free of viruses. The problem I'm facing is that the system files (which are placed in system32 folder) are being replaced by unkown files. Everytime a file is replaced, I get a message that I should insert the Windows XP sp2 CD to restore the original file. Whenever I do that, the file(s) is/are replaced again within seconds.

I've tried various anti-viruses, but all they say is my system is free of viruses. I probably think that the anti-viruses are somehow being hijacked by the virus that's causing the error, because the frequency of that message (mentioned in the above paragraph) increases when I'm trying to install/uninstall an anti-virus.

(For those of you who don't know, I got a severe virus that deleted the system logon files. I got rid of it by formatting the C-drive. After that some viruses still existed in the D-drive which won't allow any anti-virus to install. I somehow removed that virus via Norton (which worked but very slowly). Then I installed Avira, which removed 55 viruses. Once that was done, my computer had nothing left in it. All the driver were corrupted. The installer got corrupted, thus I couldn't install anything. No sound, no net. Now, I once again formatted the C-drive, and did a fresh install of windows. And, my computer is still not the usual and gives the error mentioned above.)

:help

Why don't you format both drives...

Yeah, I guess that's probably the last option I'm left with. I don't want to do that, because all my data is saved in the D-drive. Perhaps I'll have to make four-five backup discs before formatting it.

It must have been a damn awesome site for you to put up with all of this, Pranav.

It's a uni's site. If you want, I'll link you to it! :p

Pranav, can you give us a screenshot when it says the system files are missing? Give the full screen including the taskbar.

I didn't get the entire thing properly.. After installing windows, this problem starts when you try to install any anti-virus, or anything? or does it start the moment window is installed?

If a screenshot of your D drive can be given as well, it would be helpful to diagnose the problem. Show hidden files and folders, and show system files before giving the screenie.
Also, for privacy sake, you can blacken the folders/files that you are sure are yours, and not of windows.

I haven't gotten that error since I uninstalled the anti-virus. Though, I'll definitely give you one when I get it again.

99% of the times, it appeared when the anti-virus was in use. Though, I remember a few times when it appeared without the anti-virus as well.

Thanks for that, but does this have both, HIdden and system files shown?
I think there should be more files..

If you can download 7-zip, and use it's file manager.. it will show all the files in the drive. If it's possible, screenshot that as well.

I got that error message as well. It appears everytime I play a song through windows media player.

(Interestingly, the printscreen button doesn't work when that error window is at the top {dark blue}. I had to keep another window at the top and then take the screenshot {light blue}. Also the computer becomes slow when I get that message.)

Hmm.. Your D drive looks alright to me.
Also, the message is looking legitimate as well.

have you tried running the computer in safe mode? does the error come up there as well?

Thanks for the help Abhas. But, I can't seem to find a solution. I am going on a vacation from Tuesday. I'll probably format both the drives after I come back. Will keep you updated about the issue when I return. :)

This is terrible. The virus has eaten up my personal folder in the D-drive. The folder contained all the photos from my digital camera, plus all my songs and much more. The virus has replaced it with another read -only folder (pic attached). This folder contains another read-only folder named exactly as my personal folder, and when I double click on it, it says 'Access Denied'.

I'd need some major help when I return back from my vacation. :(

You'll have to advice me some data recovering tools as well.
