Have to post that I am so proud of my son in law Ben who will be playing with the Melbourne Stars after he received his contract today!

Congratulations Ben!

It's feedback from professionals like Ben that has made our game what it is and now I can't use him for publicity as he is licensed to CA!

Ps: Viv Richards was on hand too, a big highlight

Congrats Ben and Ross!!! Melbourne Stars is my favorite team now :cheers

Yeah, guys a champion - too good at everything... won the b&f for football his region while missing half the season with a knee.

Well that's a good of a reason as any to arbitrarily pick which Melbourne I want to support.

I'm hoping he does well in Big Bash and moves to the next level, and eventually gets to play for Australia :thumbs

Well done Ben! I now look forward (not really) to see him help Australia thrash England in 2019. Hopefully he will get his chance this season.

Out of curiosity, is his name Ben Abbatangelo?

Yep, that's Ben. SBS followed him on the tour of India last year.

I had a look at the Melbourne Stars website for that. Did he perform well on the India tour?

I believe he's currently captain of the Australian indigenous side post tour so I think he did ok.

Haven't seen their website yet, he just got the contract minutes ago.

Great work! With two additional teams and being played at the same time as the international games this competition does give exposure to younger players which is great.

So ben doesn't like to dance down the ground and block the ball i guess? :p

Congratulations to him and you. That is indeed a very huge achievement.

Maybe he will get an IPL contract next and play in an INDIAN team, and you will feel embarrassed about it because you are a racist fish.

Here's the man of the hour...
Rookies announced

The Melbourne Stars earlier announced their BBL|03 Community and Development Rookies at their Family Day at Casey Fields.
Talented Indigenous cricketer, Ben Abbatangelo has been named the Stars Community Rookie, while promising 18-year-old Victorian Guy Walker will join the squad as the Development player.
The exciting new initiative for the KFC T20 Big Bash League will allow the pair the opportunity to become a member of the Stars squad, train with the team and gain access to the club's esteemed coaches.
Melbourne Stars Head Coach, Greg Shipperd is excited about the prospect of giving two rising Stars the opportunity to be involved in the inner sanctum of the Stars.
?It?s a great initiative and opportunity for two rising stars of the game,? Shipperd said.
?I?ve been impressed with Abbatangelo ? he?s certainly a welcome addition to our squad as our community rookie.
?He?s a beautiful striker of the ball, a busy player and an astute fielder. We?ve identified a lot of potential in him and look forward to developing him further, on and off the field.?
20-year-old Abbatangelo was selected after a three-month search with members of the State?s Indigenous squad who have been vying for selection through training sessions, trial matches and club cricket performances.
