Well he has approx 40 overs to get 90 odd more runs. I wouldn't want to go into the 4th day still batting but I guess if he is only 20 runs off they may well let him carry on.

They should definatly bowl tonight for as much time as possible, hopefully Jaywardene can get them quick.

Definitely agree there, bowling tonight would be the best outcome. But there isn't many chances for a player to get 400+ in a game and still get an outcome especially against quality opposition. Hopefully he manages to get the runs quickly or else SL will have to bat on tommorow then send SA in.

I still would have prefered John Dyson to stay on though.
What a partnership by Sangakkara, and Jayawardene! I mean, yes, maybe the track has about as much life as a morgue, but still, to keep their concentration for so long, is a remarkable feat. I remember watching Jayasuriya'a and Mahanama's partnership against India in 1997, i didnt think anyone would get near it in the near future, and its testimony to the effect ODIs have had on the test game.
Keep it up lads!!! :clap

btw, Nicky Boje - 65 overs, 5 maidens, 0 wickets for 221!!! :p

355 and still going.A really amazing effort by J'wedene. He has a good chance of making it past 400 here.

I wonder if thats the most overs/runs conceeded with no wicket in 1 innings.

Wow, it isn't:

0-259 Khan Mohammad

is the only one in Boje's path.

Well, the only way he can miss the record is through some sort of judgement/execution error, 'cause the African attack, and indeed the whole outfit, in this current state really have very little hope of forcing a dismissal. Sending SA in for the better part of the latter session would be the best bet, I guess, as it's always hard to negotiate that tricky period, let alone do so successfully with basically no winning incentive or physical/mental energy- two days burning in the outfield with, effectively, one wicket (the first two being taken early on in quick succession) can't be an encouraging prospect.
Anyway, it's tea; for some reason I'm hoping Lara's record remains, but, if it doesn't, you can't say Jayawardene isn't a deserved holder.
I was under the impression that the FC partnership record was with the Waugh brothers (460 odd, if I recall correctly)- before this test's events, obviously-, clearly not...

What will Jayawardene aim for? 401*? Or will he bat a little longer to make his record a bit more safer.

:mad

SA made a solid enough start with the bat, but they shouldnt be allowed to get anywhere near it.
We should be able to bowl them out in the space of two days even without Murali. Not having vaas would ensure that it will take longer to do so, but in the first innings, Fernando showed what he can do on a pitch like this, and hopefully the bowlers will come back nice and refreshed tomorow, and complete the job.

Pity that he got a low one, although he must have been exhausted after that long stay at the crease. It was a remarkable innings, and Jayawardene is starting to shine in the big-time league, having performed quite consistently over the last couple of years.
