West Indian Lineup

There was lots of controversy wheather the 7 West Indian players including Brian Lara would make it to the ODI Squad after they were all Dropped against South Africa in March 2005

The West Indes Cricket board are trying to solve the issue with contracts therefore they have decided to postpone the lineup for 1 day

Indian Capatin Sourav Ganguly was caught today talking to the media at Johannesburg INTL Airport on his teams arrival from India

Media well Sourav how do you think your team will compete in this one day series

Sourav well i think we have a really high chance at winning this ODI Series our bastmen have been performing well recently and so have our bowlers. Its not easy coming to South Africa the wickets favour all the seam bowlers. we have not had a good time in South Africa from previous series, i certainly think this series will change that. the last time we were in south africa it was the world cup and we reached into the final so the boys are confident of winning the series

Media How do you think the Quality of your oppostions even though the west indes still need to sumbit their squad?

Sourav well south africa are one of the best one day sides in the world. in 2004 both us and south africa did not perform well in one days, i think that both teams were lacking confidence then. but now South Africa has beaten England 4-1 in and zimbabwe 3-0 in there last odi series. i think there going to be a tough team to beat. No matter what anyone says west indes will be a big threat in this series even if they do not have their strong squad. they proved that when they won the champions trophy last year so they are going to be tough. i personally hope that the players with contarct issues do get chosen its nice to have competitve teams playing each other and the fans get enjoyment aswell

Media Sourav your batting hasnt been really up to scratch in the last couple of months do you hope to make ammends here

Sourav my batting has been very poor i know that. i have not performed well in last couple of months because there has been huge expectations to perform well against pakistan. in that series i havnt been able to think striaght with huge expectations from the fans. i hope to ammend that in this series by showing the fans what i can do with the bat

The South African media caught with south african captain Graeme simth and his team at the teams training session

Media: well Graeme this going to be a tough task for your boys in this One day series with playing against great oppositons like the world cup Final losers-India and the champions Trophy winners-West Indes

Graeme: yes this going to be a tough one for the boys were playing against to real tough opponents. i think the boys will be raring to go after a performance against england and zimbabwe in the last odis. this team is starting to beleive again. in 2004 were in low confidence we did not play well at all by losing a series agains Sri Lanka 5-0, but our new coach Eric Simmons has got the team to believe again and thats an important factor to win matches

Media: how do you think the pitches in this Series will come out and do you think it will be important for which team that wins?

Graeme: as always in South Africa these pitches will asist the fast bowlers that is great advantage for us as we have two great fast bolwers shaun and makhaya. i think these pitches will have say on who wins the matches as if you see india and west indes both nations prepare pitches that are dry and hard which assist spinners. both india and west indes are world class cricket nations at home but the pitches here should not help their spin bowlers. as you can see india have not included Harbajhan Singh theyve only included kumble and 3 seamers. also indias batsmen do not like green pitches so if we can get the ball to swing and bounce i think both india and west indes will be tested very hard.
