Brian Lara Interview

lara.jpg

The West Indes cricket team have arrived in South Africa 1 day late then scheduled because of contract issues.

a south african reporter went to to west indian camp to interview Brian lara

Media-well brian are you happy that you and your team mates that had contract issues have now been included in the squad

Brian- yes im over the moon, i was diassapointed when i was dropped against south africa back in march but now i delighted to be back. these last few months i have been resting obviously i was unhappy that i was not included in series against south africa back in march but now i am raring to go score some runs

Media- how do you rate your chances in this series with world class oppostion like south africa and india

Brian- well i regard both south africa and india very high class teams. i feel that we have a good chance in this series last time we were here in south africa back in january 2004 we lost the ODI Series 3-1 but we should of drawn the series 2-2. in the world cup 2003 we beat south africa in the opening game, so i think we have a very good chance to go on and win this series.we also beat south africa in the champions trophy so we have a good chance. as for india we have not played too much one day cricket with them for the last 2 years infact i dont think we played india at all in the last 2 years so playing india is going to be very intresting. to me they have the worlds best batting line up and their bowlers are improving. i regard them as a much better team than south africa at this stage. but india have just come out of a 1-1 test series draw against pakistan and their players morale will be down. as we saw in the world cup they payed wonderfully against other opposition teams but they lost concentration in the final.

media-well brian most people regard west indes as 3rd favourites in this series how do you look at that

brian- everyone regared us as least favourites in the icc champions trophy but what happened there we won the tournament so anything can happen in this series

media- 1thing i got to ask u brian you newest version of brian lara cricket international is coming in stores in june what do you think about in that and were you involved with anything in the game

brian- i am amzed and excite about this new game aswell i havee seen the video and screenshots and i think it is going to be a good game, its also weird aswell seeing your in a computer game but it feels nice aswell, and the only thing that was involved in the game from me was my signature.

media- ok then brian all the best

brian thanks very much

South Africa v India Match 1

crowdjburg.jpg

Mark- Nicholas- welcome to Johannesburg for the first ODI match of ODI Series between South Africa and India

As ever all the sound is coming from the Indian supporters and there is only 1/3 of the ground filled with them
vstory.jpg

Mark-Joining me today for this match is Ravi Shastri, Alan Donald, Barry Richards and Tony Greig

Well at the moment here with me in the studio are ravi shastri and Tony greig. Alan Donald and Barry Richards have gone of to prepare to commentate and Tony cozier will join us for the next match with the west indes

Well Ravi the last time the India played and ODI match was last year against Bangladesh in December and they just about won that series. How well do you think India will have to play here?

Ravi- well if India plays anyway like they played against Bangladesh last year they will lose this match. The key factor for the Indians here is that they have 3 good seam bowlers which could cause trouble to the south Africans

Mark- well ravi they have only brought one spinner from India anil kumble do you think they made the right decision leaving harbjahan singh in India

Ravi- well if you look at this way harbhajan is a big turner of ball than anil kumble but kumbles ODI record is something to be reckoned with and harbhajan has been under high pressure from the ICC about his bowling action, I think that?s why they have left him at home or otherwise he would be here right now

Mark- well tony South Africa have improved somewhat after there recent slump in 2004 and they have beaten England and Zimbabwe in their last ODI matches very convincingly. Do you think that will encourage the South Africans that they can beat a world class team like India?

Tony- yes I think those wins have boosted all the south African players and they will be believing they can win this one but they know India is a very good batting side so if they pick a few wickets in the early stages they would be on top.

Mark- Tony who do you think the key men are for both teams.

Tony ? well mark I think south Africans key player is shaun Pollock if he gets 1 or 2 wickets early India will be under pressure. For India the key man is shewag he can score a rapid 50 very fast so south Africa will want to get him back to the dressing room early.

Mark- ok guys last question before the match is going to begin, who is going to win this one?

Tony- well with the slump India have been on for the last couple of months I am going with South Africa

Ravi- I also agree with Tony I visited the Indian dressing room today and all of them are still down about the draw with Pakistan they need to forget about that now and look to future as they did 1 year ago.

Mark- well join us for the toss and start of play after this commercial

thank you every one for your comments im sorry that i cant thank you personally because im busy starting this match

Toss and Pitch Report (South Africa win toss)

Mark- well here we are for the start of this match I hope the viewers enjoy this one and I am now handing over to ravi shastri for the toss and pitch report
pitchreportjburg.jpg

Ravi- yes mark looking at this pitch it is quite moist so the new ball will zip around early on but as the day goes on this will turn into a batsmen friendly track. So my guess whoever wins the toss first will field first

Ok here I am with the two captains Graeme Smith and Sourav Ganguly and the match referee Clive Lloyd. After you Clive, heads is the call from the Indian captain, it?s a tails so Graeme smith wins the toss, so Graeme what do you want to do?

Graeme- I think we?ll field first it looks a good wicket for the bowlers and the ball should do a bit off the seam hopefully we can get quick wickets

Ravi- Ok and Sourav what do you think of the outcome

Sourav- I think this pitch will certainly turn friendly for the batsmen but we have to be careful in the opening overs

Ravi- ok the situation is Graeme Smith has won the toss and asked India to bat. lets take a quick break then you will be handed over to our match commentators Alan Donald and Sir Barry Richards

Update from Johannesburg

Barry- why thank you ravi so here is the lineups for both teams as both teams make there way out to the middle. Listen to that raw from the Indian supporters there really want there team to do well

Alan- yes certainly that will give the Indians some confidence

Barry- so here we go shaun Pollock to start the proceedings and the umpires today are simon taufel and billy bowden

And pollck starts with a beauty, the ball pitches on off and swings away tendulkar goes after it and misses it completely
And exactly the same with the second ball swings away tendulkar goes after it and misses

Alan- tendulkar should be careful here his playing needless shots he should watch the movement carefully

Barry- Pollock to tendulkar ohh it hits the pad the south Africans are appealing and the umpires given him TENDULKAR IS OUT IN THE 4TH BALL OF THE INNINGS !!!!!!
tendulwikjburg.jpg

Alan- yes great bowling from Pollock the ball pitched outside of off stump and swang in sharply into tendulkars pad and that was hitting middle and leg good decision. So the little master goes for a duck

Barry- that?s a big wicket for the south Africans, tendulkar never looked settled from ball 1. His had a torred time johannesburg he was out for 4 in the world cup final and out for a duck here. the danger man tendulkar goes. Well be right back after the break. We will be back after the break. score 0/1

Barry- Pollock to Sehwag, OUT!!!! What a beauty

Alan- yes the ball pitched on middle and swang away sehwag tried to play down the ground but got a kiss onto the ball straight into bouchers hand. Sehwag goes for 1!!
Sorry we could not show you sehwags wicket as there are some technical problems here in Johannesburg.
(note I mistakenly deleted sehwags wicket picture)

Let?s go to studio and see what Mark and Tony think off this.

Mark- well South Africa on top Tony.

Tony- yes they got 2 early wickets they will be over the moon at this. They have broken 2 of the best batsmen in one day cricket. These are batsmen who could have scored 100 runs of 15 overs but today it was not to be.

Mark- ok back to the match

The Champ said:
No Sachin is not out Poor decision by the umpire there and i think the ball is going down the leg side

i think the ball was hitting leg

so south africa of to a flyer here they have picked up sehwag and tendulkar.

ganguly just edged of first ball but dropped

so what do you guys think?

(note updates will happen after wickets and regulary after 15overs)

Update from Johannesburg (Ganguly Silences Critics)

Barry well since south Africa had India 5/2 they have completely switched off after 15 overs India are now 84/2

Ganguly has been the star man for India he has hit 50 runs from just 33 deliveries and now even laxman is settling in with him.

When India was 5/2 ganguly was dropped first ball by kallis in first slip of ntini. India were then riding their luck playing inside edges which missed the stumps by a whisker. It then suddenly changed ganguly hit 3 fours of 1 over from Pollock, and laxman started to join the part by hitting 2 consecutive fours

Ganguly clips pollock for 4 laxman inside edges just past leg stump

Here is the scorecard after ganguly made his century of just 33 balls he slowed down as he saw laxman was getting into the groove. Ganguly has no made 54 runs of 44 balls now. Where laxman has been playing the dravid type of innings he moves onto 29 of 33. Well Alan India on top

Alan- yes Barry south Africa totally switched off after the wicket of sehwag, and what a time for ganguly to answer his critics who say he cant bat

Well south African bowling stats after 15 overs well shaun Pollock asked the questions of the batsmen he removed both openers within the 3rd over and he continually found the line and length until he was hit for 3 fours in 1 over from ganguly and nitini has been bowling a wayward line and length and most runs have come off him.

Well Barry if India continues to bat like this they will really challenge South Africa when they bat

Barry ? yes they certainly will, lets go back to the studio while the players take drinks

Mark- well this is a complete turn around isn?t it ravi

Ravi- yes it is mark India have not panicked when they were 5/2 and they have put all the bad balls away I can see them make a challenging total know

Mark- well what can South Africa do to stop this onslaught Tony

Tony- well now it is going to be really hard for South Africa they were in the drivers seat until ganguly took over. South Africa needs to bowl close to the stumps and they need to get boje on to see whether if he can ask any questions

Mark- ganguly is really batting well after his recent slump against Pakistan ravi

Ravi- yes his playing a captains innings and his got to prove a point

Mark- back to the match.
