Botha wraps the England Tail

England were in deep trouble after 20 overs at 89 for the loss of six wickets and they had just Ravi Bopara and Stuart Broad in the middle. England needed these two to put on the partnership which none of the above England batting pair had done. While on the other hand the African bowlers were on high after taking the top six wickets quite cheaply. Morkel and Kallis continued what they had done brilliantly throughout the game. They continued to bowl in the right line and length and make the batsman work very hard for each and every run. The boundaries had dried up and the two batsman were doing the scoring with the ones here and there. The scoreborad was ticking with the singles but there was no entertainment for the supporters. The two batsman were scoring 3-4 runs per over and were really finding it difficult to score boundaries.

Johann Botha was given the ball by Smith and straightaway he was getting a lot of turn and bounce from the pitch. Three balls later Botha got breakthrough and the wicket of Stuart Broad. Botha from round the wicket pitching on off and middle stump, Broad went to defend it but the ball just turned and got the leading outside edge and giving a simple catch to keep Mark Boucher. Broad departed for just 6 runs and England were 103 for the loss of 7 wickets as Graeme Swann walked in. Graeme Swann could have been doing the long walk back to the pavilion in next over but was given a life-line by Albie Morkel. Swann decided to free his arms and smash Kallis over covers but didn't timed the shot but Albie Morkel wasn't able to catch the ball cleanly. Swann and Bopara kept the scoreboard ticking again with the singles all over the ground. But soon the off-spinner Botha struck again. Botha bowled the yorker and Swann went for the sweep completely missed the ball and the ball struck his shoe. The umpire had no doubt in his mind as he raised his finger as the ball would have hit the middle stump. Swann departed for 7 runs.

Jams Anderoson was the next man in. he straightaway got off the mark with a couple towards deep point. But the three balls he had to walk back to the pavilion. Anderson hit the ball towards square-leg and decided to run but Bopara wasn't interest in the run and sent Anderson back and in the process Anderson just failed short as his bat was in the air. Monty Panesar the last man was in. Morkel was given the ball again instead of Kallis and was impressive as he had been throughout the match bowling a tight line and not letting the batsman free their arms. Morkel was very economical and didn't went for more than 3 runs. Panesar and Bopara the last pair did the scoring with the ones and twos but were unable to find the needed boundaries. England batsman had completely failed in this match and were not at all close posting a good defendable target on such a good batting pitch. Johann Botha finally wrapped the innings with another yorker resulting a leg before as Bopara was plumed.

So South Africans bowled brilliantly and completely dominated the game outclassing the Englishman. Everyone contributed for the South African while everyone was a flop for England. Is would take a miracle for England to defend such a low score on a very good batting pitch in Sydney. So South Africa need just 129 runs to win in 50 overs at 2.59 runs per over.

Um Shan bit of nit-picking but I assume that it's not supposed to say "Swann destroys the tail as England is bowled out for 128".

Supreme presentation.

Oh yeah thanks Dez. Should be Botha instead of Swann but now cant edit it :( as I have deleted all the screens. Sorry for it again :hpraise

Aye, Dez is right but oh well. Still a quality update, keep it up mate.

England have it all to do with the ball to restrict South Africa from the easy total. They have their work cut out.

n00bs like me are in love with your scorecard making ability :D. Great update, well done from Botha to finish off the innings. Man D rules.

Haha, this match reminds me of yesturday's England - West Indies match :p Bad times for English cricket :(

I myself love the scoreboards, and always have mate, they are near right perfect.
Getting onto the match, this is terrible for England, but atleast they got over 100 which is something i didn't think they'd do, so good on them for that :p

Gibbs-Smith give Proteas the Best Start

South African just needed 129 runs to win the second one-dayer of the Commonwealth Bank Quadrangular Series 2009. Herschelle Gibbs and skipper Graeme Smith opened the batting for the Proteas while it was James Anderson who was given the ball for England. Smith got the mark of the first mark with a quick single towards mid-on and next ball Gibbs got of the mark with a late cut for four past Owais Shah at short third man. In the next over of Broad, skipper Graeme Smith took some room and smashed through the covers for the second boundary of the innings. The Proteas had started the innings brilliantly and were scoring almost 9 runs per over. Gibbs continued his aggressive batting while Smith did the scoring in ones and twos and an odd boundary. Gibbs soon hit Anderson between point and gully for four and it was looking like the South Africans are in a hurry of finishing the game quickly.

Smith to scored his second boundary of the innings with a brilliant straight drive for four passing the leg stump. Anderson and Broad the opening bowlers were hammered and were completely out of ideas as Gibbs played a brilliant cover drive for the fifth boundary in five overs. The day had gone from bad to worse for the Englishmen as their bowlers were completely outclassed today. Boundaries were often followed by ones and twos and the rotating of the strike trouble the English bowlers to stick with on line and length. The English bowlers were all over the place and never got their line right. Soon Gibbs smashed his fourth four of the innings with another cover drive this time of Anderson - who was the economical bowler of the two going for 7 runs per over. In next over of Smith hit his third boundary of the day with a delicate cut which beat Ravi Bopara at third man for four. Gibbs and Smith both had put on a partnership of 62 runs in no time.

But finally, against the run of play Anderson got rid of the dangerous Herschelle Gibbs. Gibbs made some room and went for the lofted cover drive but gave an easy catch to Ian Bell at covers. Gibbs looked angry on himself as he made the walk back to the pavilion scoring 36 of 28 balls. Hashim Amla was the new man on strike and Anderson almost got his second wicket but the ball missed the outside edge of Amla's bat. Anderson's 5th over had only cost 4 runs of it by far the economical over of the innings. Broad who Gibbs had targeted earlier in the innings now became the target of the skipper. Broad pitching it outside off stump, Smith made room for himself and tried to free his arms but got a thick outside edge which luckily went all the way for four.

The next ball Graeme Smith played the same shot by making himself some room and freeing his arms but this time Smith connected the ball nicely and it went all the way for six over extra cover. Broad came back well bowling three dots ball and two of them just missed the outside edge of Graeme Smith. But the last ball of the 10th over Smith smashed for a huge six. Broad pitched it short and Smith pilled away ten odd rows behind the fine leg fielder for a huge six the second of the over. Kevin Pietersen looked helpless and he knew the match was already lost and was now doing the work of watching his bowlers hit to all the parts of the ground.

South Africa after the end of the 10 overs the Proteas are 83 for the loss of one wicket. They need just 46 runs to win from 40 overs and its not at all going be any difficult task. The match was not there to be won by England and their bowlers bowled poorly and so were hammered to all parts of the ground.

South Africa: 83/1(20 overs)
Smith: 46(31)
Amla: 0(1)
Extras: 1

Last Wicket(s):
Gibbs c.Bell b.Anderson 36(28)

J.Anderson 5-0-33-1
S.Broad 5-0-50-0

Well there ya go. The English bowlers are even more worse then their batsmen.

England.Are.Terrible.

Safe to say that now; they can't bat nor bowl. They need a miracle if they are to win from here.

Brilliant presentation, Shan. Anderson's mouth is just :D

England just can't simply win here. Unless it starts pouring down rain, which should end the match as a draw, but that is there only hope that they can defeat in this match, Other wise, NEW ZEALAND all the way

Smith lead South Africans to victory

It was never gonna be difficult to chase 129 on a good batting pitch of Sydney and already Herschelle Gibbs and Graeme Smith had taken the game away from the Englishman with their 66 run opening partnership and it was now upto Smith and Hashim Amla to win it for the Proteas. Kevin Pietersen thinking something different brought the spinners on replacing the two fast bowlers who had gone for plenty. Panesar was welcomed to the bowling with boundary of the first ball. Smith hiting it against the spin through the covers for four. Panesar came back well conceding four runs of the last five balls. Graeme Swann was given the ball from the other end and he was able to get some spin and bounce but in the form Graeme Smith was he swept Swann against the turn over mid-wicket for a four and also with that shot he raised his quick-fire and well deserved 50. The crowd gave the South African skipper a huge round of appluase.

Amla who had just been a virtual spectator from the non-strikers end to joined the party with his first boundary of the match. Panesar giving some flight on the ball from around the wicket and Amla making room for himself, smashed the ball over the covers for four. Amla went for one shot to many and the next ball trying to smash Panesar out of the ground gave an easy catch to Ravi Bopara at long-on. Amla looked very disappointed as he walked backed to the pavilion scoring just 5 runs of 5 balls and the Proteas were 104 for the loss of two wickets as the allrounder Jacques Kallis walked.

ncxvlu.jpg

Kallis showed some respect to Panesar by defending the first ball he faced but the next it was Panesar who celebrated in his jumping style as he got rid of Kallis. Kallis going for the drive, but the ball just turned a little and got an outside edge of Kallis' bat and was held well by Matt Prior. Kallis departed for not. AB de Villiers was new man in who was at the non strikers end. KP gave the ball back to Anderson as England searched for the fourth wicket of the game. But Smith smashed Anderson through the gully for four of the first ball and the boundary was followed by a single. AB de Villiers straighaway got of the mark as he smashed Anderson through covers for four.

2ikw8pe.jpg

Boundaries were often followed by singles which kept the bowler thinking and of the last ball De Villiers got an thick edge which went all the way for four. Panesar who had got two wickets in quick succession continued from the other end. Smith took the single of the first ball itself. Panesar bowled a tighter line and length to AB de villiers and bowled 4 dot balls before De Villiers swept Panesar against the turn for a huge six over the deep mid-wicket fielder. Proteas needed just three runs to win of the Anderson over and they did it in singles with Smith scoring the winning runs and leading his team to a very comfortable victory against England.

It was an easy and comfortable victory for the Proteas but there were some hickups as Panesar got rid of Kallis and Amla in quick succession but Proteas were never gonna lose the match and Smith lead his team from the front like leader. England's batsman failed to click with the bat and their did the same with the ball. While the Proteas outplayed them in all fields and won the game with 7 wickets to spare.
