Sri Lanka in Australia

Langer & Martyn were class players but they were never the sole of the team. I guess that's what made the Australian Team so great.

We gotta worry about replacing Warney, McGrath, Gilly, Haydos & Ponting when he retires.

I think GIlly will be retiring after the CB series and just focusing on tests. I have a feeling after the Ashes in 09, he may hang up the gloves.

Ashes '09? He can't hold on that long, thats a bit optimistic:)

Well if hes going to retire before then he should give us sometime to get his replacement settled in.

Brad Haddins pretty capable and experienced that he could come in straight away:p

:p Best 2 sides in the world for me but i can't see the Sri Lankans doing well in australian conditions, will be interested in how Malinga gets on though.

First Of all Sri Lanka are far from being the second best test side in the world.
They may be the second best ODI side but not the best test side.

England, India and Pakistan have all fared better in test cricket than the Lankans in the recent few years.
Sri Lanka got beaten 2-0 by both India and Pakistan when they toured India and Pakistan in 2006.
Thay haven`t beaten Australia (home or away) in a test for a while now and haven`t been competitive in SA as well.
I think they even lost to the West Indies 1-0 in the West Indies.

Their best achievements in recent times have been the 1-1 draws in NZ and England.

Hardly stuff of a No.2 side, that.

Mallinga will struggle, especially when batsmen start getting used to his freak action.
Murali is the real big threat though and as we all know, he can turn it on glass.

I feel that the current standings in the ICC Test Championship are just about correct.
England and India at No.2 and No.3 with Sri Lanka a close fourth.

Sri Lanka need a better middle order now, especially with Marvan not in the ranks.
Sangakkara seems to score the big 200s against Zim and Banglades but gets out in the 20s and 30s against the better sides.
Sanath is`nt the same player anymore while Chamara Silva is just starting his career .
Mahela is the person they`ll look upto for runs and he seems to have matured into a superb player now.

Well, maybe. But I reckon he will go with Hayden after the summer in at least one form of the game.

Hayden will try playing Test Cricket til his 40, methinks. I hope he doesn't though, I hate see players playing beyhond their years & ending up with a record that doesn't really reflect their accomplishments & talent.

It'd be nice to see Gilly to end with a 50+ average as it would cap off how you'd want your dream wicketkeeper-batsman to be in Tests.

sanga is in good form making runs for warwickshire and he and mahela both genarally like bouncy tracks so hopefully they can make runs. They wouldn't get to tour Aus that much so they gt to make most of it to make runs there.

On the other hand, there are many times when it has been thought that he should quit (and surely he must have considered it), but at 35, he has produced the most destructive period of his career and with 10 ODIs remaining this year is a reasonable 629 runs behind Tendulkar's calendar year record. Just that he managed to fight his way back into the ODI team was extraordinary.

It's nice to leave on a high, but noone really wants to leave while they are capable of doing something more amazing. I figure he's looking at 10,000 Test runs.

Sri Lanka will depend heavily on Jayawardene and Sangakkara to get them runs as they have done in the past against the stronger teams. Bowling may be a problem, though, if Malinga and Vaas don't get early breakthroughs.

It'll be funny to see how Hooper reacts should Murali overtake Warne's record in Australia. Hopefully the Aussie faithful will be mature and applaud a legend of the game rather than offer a chorus of bitter booing.
Mature? Australians? Ha! I won't be there, but if I was I'd probably boo :p.

Just kidding of course, but you can expect that the AUssie faithful will be disappointed. I'm sure that there will still be the usual no ball banter, but it's in all in good nature.

Exactly. If one player didn't have a good day then other one did and he would cover for that player. I think that is why Australia can be such a dominat side.

Well it's not like there'll be death threats or burning effigies.
