New Zealand have finally retired at beginning of the 47th Over with a score of 259. Cairns completed his century before he became out. McCullum scored 36. The tail-enders didn?t add much to the score. Chandana cast a superb spell of 3/15 in just 2.1 Overs. Fernando and Jayasuriya picked 2 each. While Muralitharan had just one, Vaas and Mahroof remained without a wicket.
Dismissed Batsman?s Innings:
6th Wicket ? The partnership was finally broken. McCullum returned to the pavilion with a 36 to his name. He played a important innings. With the help of 3 fours, he managed to take his score to 36 in 39 balls, well until his partner left him high and dry and a few inches short of the crease to be ruled by the umpire, ?Run Out?.
7th Wicket: Vettori goes out early. Standing for just 3 balls, he lobed his last ball to bowler Jayasuriya to clinch him a wicket for an individual success.
8th Wicket ? Oram goes early too. However Oram made 10 runs in 27 balls to help Cairns. Chandana bowled a superb leg spinner which Oram missed and was given out ?LBW?
9th Wicket ? Cairns finally goes at 108. Chandana bagged his 2nd wicket with the most important wicket of the match. It was just a simple leg spin. Cairns tried to hit the straight drive, the ball found the inner edge and found its way to the off stump.
10th Wicket ? Not much was expected from tail Enders Tuffey and Bond, making an extra three runs, the two left for the pavilion after Tuffey was LBWed by Chandana.
Spot On:
Cairns played a superb innings today. He is now one of the nominees for today?s Man of the Match. A century in 95 balls. 10 quick fours and an interesting dismissal. Cairns must have surely enjoyed his match today.
- One of Cairns four.
- Cairns on his hundred.
- Cairns loses his wicket.
Chandana was sensational today. He took three wickets ? Cairns, Oram and Tuffey- in 2 Overs, conceding just 15 runs. He showed just a simple spell of Leg Spinning but it was too much for the kiwi tail Enders and for the kiwi superstar Chris Cairns.
- Chandana claims his third wicket.
