New Zealand have finally retired at beginning of the 47th Over with a score of 259. Cairns completed his century before he became out. McCullum scored 36. The tail-enders didn?t add much to the score. Chandana cast a superb spell of 3/15 in just 2.1 Overs. Fernando and Jayasuriya picked 2 each. While Muralitharan had just one, Vaas and Mahroof remained without a wicket.

Dismissed Batsman?s Innings:

6th Wicket ? The partnership was finally broken. McCullum returned to the pavilion with a 36 to his name. He played a important innings. With the help of 3 fours, he managed to take his score to 36 in 39 balls, well until his partner left him high and dry and a few inches short of the crease to be ruled by the umpire, ?Run Out?.

7th Wicket: Vettori goes out early. Standing for just 3 balls, he lobed his last ball to bowler Jayasuriya to clinch him a wicket for an individual success.

8th Wicket ? Oram goes early too. However Oram made 10 runs in 27 balls to help Cairns. Chandana bowled a superb leg spinner which Oram missed and was given out ?LBW?

9th Wicket ? Cairns finally goes at 108. Chandana bagged his 2nd wicket with the most important wicket of the match. It was just a simple leg spin. Cairns tried to hit the straight drive, the ball found the inner edge and found its way to the off stump.

10th Wicket ? Not much was expected from tail Enders Tuffey and Bond, making an extra three runs, the two left for the pavilion after Tuffey was LBWed by Chandana.

Spot On:

Cairns played a superb innings today. He is now one of the nominees for today?s Man of the Match. A century in 95 balls. 10 quick fours and an interesting dismissal. Cairns must have surely enjoyed his match today.

- Cairns loses his wicket.

Chandana was sensational today. He took three wickets ? Cairns, Oram and Tuffey- in 2 Overs, conceding just 15 runs. He showed just a simple spell of Leg Spinning but it was too much for the kiwi tail Enders and for the kiwi superstar Chris Cairns.

- Chandana claims his third wicket.

this is amazing stuff volde great job mate,

great stuff voldemort. love both the graphics (did you make them for 05 aswell? - i especially like the gaps seperating the openers then the middle order etc) and i also love the blur around the players, emphasising the action. wonderful stuff

Actually, i am making them for 05. See this thread. I havent made them for Cricket 04 yet, but once i finish it for Cricket 2005, i will make it. And thanks for the comments pn the blur.

The Kiwis have finally done it. The bowlers restricted the Sri Lankans to 157 to gain a win of 102 runs. The top order had collapsed early. But the Tail enders stood their ground firm and contributed as much as they could.

Scorecard.jpg

Dismissed Batsman?s Innings:

1st Wicket: Sri Lankan all rounder and only hope, Sanath Jayasuriya is out early in his innings tuning up all hopes for the Kiwis. He was bowled out to the pavilion by Tuffey, an important bowler for the Kiwis. A leg glance which found its way to Jayasuriyas leg stump was the reason for Jayasuriyas dismissal. Jayasuriya was unlucky not to have hit a six although he managed two fours in his short innings.

2nd Wicket: Sri Lankan Skipper, Attapatu couldn?t boost the moral of his team mates nor of his country since he had to worm his way to the dressing room out of shame as he was caught behind by McCullum off Bond. An attempted straight drive nicked off to the keeper behind him for an easy catch. He added 16 to the tally.

3rd Wicket: Sri Lanka?s destructive opener, Gunawardene wasn?t able to stand upto expectations. He was caught by New Zealand?s destructive batsman, Craig McMillan off Tuffey. A lobbed Back foot on drive, went straight to the fielder for a safe catch. He was able to score just 3 runs.

4th Wicket: Another important batsman for Sri Lanka, Jayawardene was beaten by Bond. An attempted square cut was inner edged straight to the base of the middle stump. He added just 9 more runs to the total.

5th Wicket: Not so good Dilshan went for a hasty run and found his way back to the pavilion. The Sri Lankan middle order batsman who was desperate for runs, ran, but his partner didn?t. He scored just 2 runs.

6th Wicket: The last of all hopes is gone, Sangakkara has been sent back to the pavilion by Vettori. The Keeper Batsman attempted a straight drive but mistimed the shot and the ball went high in the air and found its way to Cairns hands. He scored 14 runs.

7th Wicket: Vaas proved to be quite a batsman, He hit a four in his second ball itself. But pitifully Tuffey sent him back in the Attapatu way. He too was subject to an edge off a cover drive which was caught easily by McCullum. He scored just 10 runs.

8th Wicket: Mahroof paid a short visit to the pitch. He returned in just 7 balls, scoring none out of it. He was bowled by Vettori when he tried a square cut but missed.

9th Wicket: Sri Lankan star of the day Chandana was as good with the bat as he was with the ball. Scoring 34 runs at a run a ball, he emerged as the top scorer of the Sri Lankan side. He was stopped from his 50 by Vettori for a solo effort. He caught a bad straight drive with a superb dive.

10th Wicket: The retiring wicket, Muralitharan was bowled by his counter part, Vettori when he was at 24. He missed a Slog sweep shot and the ball hit the stumps, at which Vettori had aimed. Fernando remained not out at 15 towards the end.

Spot On:

Sri Lanka made a majority of their runs through fours and Extras. Out of the 157, 76 runs were made through 4?s and 21 through Extras, making up a combined total of 97. Which leaves a score of 61 which was scored through singles.

The Kiwis have gone off to a steady and slow start, scoring at 2 runs an over. Although it is too much for a test match, the team will look forward to scoring as much as possible.

Both the batsmen have set their eyes in the game. A good first Wicket partnership can be expected from the duo. Well batted.

Innings 1, New Zealand

New Zealand ? 119/0 (2:41 PM, Day 1)
Overs: 42

Sinclair - 60
Fleming* ? 54

Chandana ? 0/43 in 15.0 Overs
Zoysa ? 0/5 in 1.0 Over

New Zealand are taking the attack up to the bowlers. The partnership looks solid with a run rate of 2.83. Both the batsmen have crossed their 50?s and are fairly settled at the crease. Sri Lanka need to pick up a few wickets sooner, else they will be facing a mammoth total.

Spot On:

The first Wicket partnership seems to be unbreakable, both the batsmen are playing equally well to name any one batsman as the sole contributor. None Sri Lankas bowlers have been successful.
