(My First Ever Press Conference)

I was called by Garry Cook last night and he told me to arrive at City of Manchester Stadium around 11:00am as they were gonna unveil me infront of world media. I was very excited about today, as for the first ever time in my life I was gonna face the media. All the people from round the world would be watching me. But at the same time there were some thoughts going on in my minds about the supporters of the club. Would they accept me as the new manager and support me during my time at the club? I decided to leave all this thoughts aside as I left my new home for the stadium.

As I reached the stadium i met Garry Cook waiting for me and he took me to the conference hall. There were about twenty odd news reporters in the hall waiting for me. Cook asked me to take my place just beside Man City owner. Cook made a small speech to unveil me.

“Good afternoon to all present here. I Garry Cook on behalf of all the board members of Manchester City Football Club announce Mr Shantanu Ambekar from India as the new manager of the club."

He presented me with a Man City home jersey with my name written on the back. There were many photographs taken. I was feeling very happy. This was surely the happiest moment of my life. My family would have been proud of me if they were watching the telecast live in India. Cook and I both sat down and then Cook said "We are ready to commence this press conference. If you have any questions to ask Mr Shantanu Ambekar, then please go ahead."

Chris Whyatt, BBC Sport:"You are making the big move to manage a big club like Manchester City but even after you don't have any managerial experience. Do you feel you can be successful?"

"Yes obviously, otherwise I would have never taken up the job if I didnt have belief in my own abilities. Its an honour to manage any club in England and Man City is one of the best clubs in England. I had a very less experience managing a small club in India named Mumbai FC for about one month. But if you manage Manchester United or Mumbai FC the basics of management remain the same. Just I need is to adapt the style of football which would suit the team and produce results."

James Dall, Sky Sports:"We saw last season that City started the season on fire but as the season progressed the consistency was not there and thats why Sven was removed from the job. So what different are you going to try to be consistent?"

"To be consistent is very important in any form of sport whether its Cricket, Football or Hockey. We see teams who get to a great start in the season but later on they ease out and drop points. In that case its important to rotate the players and play them in their right position to get the best from them."

Mark Taylor, Daily Mail:"Mr Ambekar are we gonna see any new signings other than those who would be joining the club later tomorrow ?"

"Well I havent met the squad yet. Anyways Robinho, Wright Phillips, Jo Alves, Kompany, Ben Haim and Zabeleta who would sign for us tomorrow and would be officially unveil later this week. So just we need to strengthen some areas in defense and striking. But I have not yet decided whom to buy yet."

Chris Whyatt, BBC Sport:"Mr Garry Cook could you tell us if Nery Alberto Castillo will be going back to Shakhtar Donestk as that is what we are hearing from the papers in England ?"

"Unfortunately, yes, that seems to be the case. We tried our best to reach and agreement between the two clubs and also the player. But Castillo made just seven odd appearances for the club last season it looks difficult he would be in the plans of any manager. Castillo himself asked us to stop and break down negotiations and told us he wanted to go back to Ukraine. We wish Nery Alberto Castillo all the best for his future plans.

Okay thats enough for today. Thank You everyone."

Finally the press conference was over, i had answered the questions quite well . I left the hall behind Cook and he shook hands with me as we left the hall. Cook asked me to start my work officially from tomorrow and he also reminded me that the fixtures of the new premier league season would be announced at 11:00am tomorrow. The onwers wished me good luck and hoped I could fulfill their dreams.

Great press conference. I understand what you're saying about the basics being the same but you've only been managing for a month. The standards in India are nowhere as high as the Premiership so you need to up your style very quickly. And I mean quickly, the fans are unsure about you, the media is ready to eat you alive. You need a good start.

Nice start mate. :D Are you continuing with your Arsenal story?

Not that much money to work with to be honest. 32million is hardly anything when it comes to the top clubs. It may be a few seasons before Man City can become a top team.

Great work Shan mate, keep it up :)

Backroom Staff
1st July 2008

I was asked by Garry Cook to have a look at the backroom staff and do the changes if needed. I was quite pleased with the work done by the staff during the last season. So I decided to retain the same backroom staff who would work with me this season. The staff consisted of Tim Flowers, Franklie Bunn and Steve Wingley as coaches. All of them had done a very good job at the club during the last few seasons and I decided to retain the same coaches. Now it was to the scouts. Darek Fazackerley, Arthur Cox and Steve Burtenshaw, all of three had done some great work in finding players like Richard Dunne, Vicent Kompany, Jo Alves to name a few. Jim Webbs, Ally Beattie and Liam Timmins were my Physio and I had decided to keep the same three as they were also splendid in their work during the last few seasons.

(Juan Carlos Osorio return back to Manchester City)

But the main problem was now who would be my Assistant Manager. After a lot of research during the whole day I decided to recall Juan Carlos Osorio as my new assistant manager. Juan was the assistant manager of the club from 2001 to 2006 before he joined Millionarios in 2006 and then went to Chicago Fire in the next season before joining New York Red Bulls in 2008.He had done a great job at Manchester City and he was fully committed to his work during his time here. I had a chat with him and convinced him to join the club and my right hand. He readily accepted the offer and said he would be glad to be back at Manchester City. Juan would be joining me from the 4th of July.

It was almost 11:00pm here at Manchester when Juan agreed to sign for the club. I decided to retire from a hectic day of work to get ready for my official day one in charge of the club tomorrow.

MAN CITY CONFIRM SIX SIGNINGS

wbyubs.png

Man City have confirmed they have signed six new players at the club. Manager Shantanu Ambekar said to the press that they were very close to sign new players and today BBC Sport can confirm they have finished the capture Jo Alves, Wright Phillips, Robinho, Kompany, Zabaleta and Ben Haim.

Jo Alves was the first player to sign for Manchester City for an undisclosed fee ranging from ?18.5m - ?20.5m. Jo who made his debut for CSKA Moscow in 2005 has scored thirty goals in fifty-three appearances for the club. Jo has featured only 5 times for Brazil's national side in which he has been able to score three goals. He made his full Brazil debut against Turkey in June 2007.

Robinho has made a shocking move to Man City. Robinho was strongly linked with the move to Stamford Bridge but he decided to chose Man City over Chelsea. Robinho who made hundred and one appearances for former club Real Madrid in which he scored twenty five times has joined Manchester City for a huge fee of ?28.5m. Robinho has also featured fifty-four times for Brazil in which he has scored fourteen times.

Shaun Wright Phillips having made just 43 starting appearances, Wright-Phillips struggled to break into the Chelsea team under both Jose Mourinho and Avram Grant and subsequently also fell out of favour with the new Chelsea boss, Luiz Felipe Scolari. Wright Phillips re-joined his former club Manchester City on a four year contract for an undisclosed fee, believed to be in the region of ?8.5m.

Manchester City has confirmed the transfer of Kompany from Hamburger SV on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee thought to be on the region of 6 million pounds. Kompany has made about twenty-eight appearances for the German club in which he has scored only once. His career at Hamburger SV was mostly affected by injury which kept him out for many months. Kompany has made twenty-five appearances for Belgian since his debut in 2004 and is yet to score for his country.

Manchester City finished the signing of another Chelsea player Tal Ben Haim for a fee of ?5m. Ben Haim was bought by Chelsea for free transfer from Bolton wanderers. But at Chelsea he made just thirteen appearances in a year and mostly played in the reserves. Ben haim was desperate to leave Chelsea as he was out of favour as Mourinho left the club. Ben Haim has made forty-one starts for Israel and is yet to score.

The last signing Manchester City made was Argentine defender Pablo Zabaleta from RCD Espanyol for a fee of ?6.5m. The twenty-three-year-old made his debut for the Spanish club in 2005. Since he has made eighty appearances for the club and has scored three times. He was recently in Argentina's Olympic side who won the gold medal in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. He has made seven starts for Argentina.

All the six new signings will be officially unveiled by the new manager and the club on the 4th of July in a press conference at 4:00pm.

Great to see Juan Carlos Osorio back as Assistant Manager, good choice. All great purchases, all apart form Ben Haim of course. I don't think Man City should of bought him, they have all that money and then they buy someone like that. They can do better. Robinho and Jo will be brilliant, whilst it is nice to Shaun back at your club at the expense of mine. Zabaleta and Kompany will be good buys, especially Kompany. I rate him highly.

Great work Shan. Really good start.

First Day in Charge
2nd July 2008

First day at office is a lot of nerves. As I stepped in at City of Manchester Stadium , I was welcomed by huge booing. Even though I was mentally prepared for such a reception, It was really disheartening. But I could understand the emotions of all those passionate fans. They might have expected some one with footballing brains, not a corporate employee. But this only gave me the steel and the determination to win over these fans.

I stepped into my office and switched on the laptop. An automated message from the board blinked at me. It said my chairman Dr Thaksin Shinawatra was delighted that I had joined the club. He believes I have every chance of delivering success the supporters crave and deserve. The DIC had also kept their word and given me a transfer kitty of 36.5million pounds and a wage budget of 550,000 pounds to spend.

I closed my laptop and I walked over to the training ground to meet the whole squad who were waiting for me with Tim Flowers(coach) and Garry Cook.
