South Africa won the toss and elected to bat. Smith started the day with a boundary but his opening partner Kallis, wasn?t as lucky. He tried to cut his first ball, but couldn?t keep it down as Coetzer took a simple catch at gully. After 2 overs SA were at 13/1. The third over changed the context of the game. Gibbs smashed, cut and drove 5 fours and a six of MacLeod?s over. With Gibbs full of confidence he charged every bowler and no one was spared. Smith was also playing aggressively but compared to the way Gibbs, he was going along slowly. When the powerplay was over SA were a massive 72/1! After the PP the SA batsmen slowed down a bit, but still were going around 10. I was in the dugout, the best place to watch the innings, talking to Mickey Arthur when Drummond came fielding on the boundary, and I said to him, ?Why don?t you guys try a spinner?? Whether it was my saying or Hamilton finally got some sense, they brought in Haq. He beat Gibbs with flight and Gibbs (58 of 25) who was trying to cut, but the bowl was too close to him and he missed and the ball hit the wickets, SA 108/2 in 10 overs. I got some nasty stares from the SA bench and I thought it was best to leave. De Villiers arrived and tried to keep the tempo up, but replacing Gibbs wouldn?t be easy. Smith finally reached his 50 of 35 balls, and then went berserk. De Villiers supported him, and the pair put on a 92 run partnership. Smith was nearing his maiden T20 ton, when Watson bowled a slow Yorker and Smith hit it as long as Poonia?s hand at Long off. Smith couldnt believe it! He had played so well for his 95(of 57). The last over yielded three wickets as the South Africans went mad. De Villiers hit first ball to square leg?s hand. Morkel arrived and it one straight down the ground, it managed to clip Watson?s fingers and Duminy fell short at the non-strikers end. Morkel joined him next ball when he failed to read a slower one, but Boucher 6(2) ended SA innings on 204. For the bowlers, Watson(1-27 of 3), Rogers (2-28 of 3) Haq (1-41 of 4) were decent but MacLeod(1-47 of 4) and the others were very disappointing.

We couldn?t watch most of the 2nd Innings because we were preparing for our own game. The SA bowlers were getting good amount of movement, something that was worrying for us. Steyn was sensational, he ended the game with an unbelievable match figures of 3-8 in 3.4 overs. The SA spinners were brilliant too sharing 5 wickets between them. Kallis got 1 wicket (for 19 runs of 2 overs) Ntini (0-15 of 2 overs) and Morkel (0-18 of 3 overs) didn?t get wickets but looked very threatening too. The Scottish never seriously looked to threaten the South African score but credit must be given to Coetzer and Hamilton as they fought bravely but couldn?t save themselves of a drubbing.

Match 6

Anderson, Flintoff Swing the Game England's Way

England: 1) L Wright 2) R Bopara 3) O Shah 4) K.Pieterson 5) P.Collingwood 6) A. Flintoff 7) D.Mascarenhas 8) J.Foster 9) G.Swann 10) S.Broad 11)J. Anderson

Pakistan: 1) S.Butt 2) N.Jamshed 3) K.Akmal 4) Y.Khan 5) S. Malik 6) Misbah 7) S.Afridi 8) S.Tanveer 9) U.Gul 10) I.Anjum 11) S.Ajmal

So finally our game was up. The senior players (Afridi, Malik, Misbah, and Younis) and I were sitting in a circle and deciding on what we would do if we won the toss. Younis and Afridi wanted to bat first as we were poor chasers and our bowlers would be able to defend anything over 140. Misbah and Malik disagreed; they saw the pitch and said we would not be able to survive the new ball under these conditions. They were all looking at me to break the deadlock. Both sides were right but I believed chasing for us would be much more difficult. And so we would bat first.

For the first time I was disappointed to win the toss. It didn?t take long for me to be proven wrong. Anderson started swinging the bowl both ways from the word go and after an edge that went for 4, Anderson pitched it up, Jamshed tried to drive again but this time nicked it to the keeper. On the other end Flintoff bowled with a lot of aggression and after 4 dot balls Akmal tried to hit it over mid-wicket and holed out to Pieterson. Anderson kept the ball swinging and after two-outswingers Younis shuffled to the off-stump to prepare him for another one but this one swung in leaving him in terrible mess. Butt edged it to first slip off the bowling of Flintoff and Misbah misread another out-swinger from Anderson to leave as 20/5. Afridi and Malik ,the last recognized pair lived dangerously for some time but soon found themselves some rhythm. Afridi started playing aggressively and Malik supported him well. They started going after the bowlers and Swann was treated to some fine shots. ( I meanwhile was trying to ignore Misbah, who was giving me I-told-you-so looks)With the game quickly leaving the hands of the English, Collingwood bought in Wright. The gamble worked as Afridi pulled on the leg-side and Swann took an easy catch in the deep. Next ball Tanveer hooked Wright and for a minute it looked like going for a six but Broad came out nowhere to take an outstanding catch. Malik soon departed and our innings was over at 139

The pitch wasn?t as good as we had thought. So the score which we got could be defended if we bowled tightly. The players were slightly disappointed with themselves but were ready to give everything we got (well I hoped that would be the case.)

Great work by Malik and Afridi to get you up to an alright total.
Hope your bowlers can now come to the party.

Shah and Flintoff Ease England To Top Spot

shahandflintoffguidesho.jpg

Tanveer got some genuine swing early on but couldn?t control his line and length. Wright and Bopara were living dangerously and so when Wright skied Tanveer straight it was a well deserved wicket. But that was the best for Tanveer as he bowled poorly afterwards. Gul, the other opening bowler, got much better and got Bopara to nick at 20 and ENG 31/2. Pieterson and Shah slowly started to combine together for a good partnership as our bowlers couldn?t stop the singles. Afridi was very tight not allowing anything to Pieterson and eventually got him lbw as Pieterson tried to sweep and England were 64/3.Surprisingly Flintoff came ahead of Collingwood. Shah who was trying to find some form played slowly in terms of T20 and Flintoff supported him greatly. They took everything we threw at them and played efficiently. None of the bowlers were able to break them apart and they built a match winning partnership. With the required rate nearly 7, Shah targeted Tanveer hitting him for six and a four before departing when he missed a slower one from Gul next over. The game had no more surprises as England comfortably won by six wickets.

Man of the Match: A. Flintoff

Disappointing loss TBH.
Flintoff had a great game all-round, which is what you don't want from an opposing teams perspective.
Tanveer had to apply more pressure at the top, which he just couldn't do. He was just too expensive, along with Gul.

Guys, I have decided to end the story. The main reason is that I really dont have much time to really put an effort into this as well as the motivation to do it. Plus I dont find Cricket 2007 that interesting anymore. I have really enjoyed writing the story, but dont consider this as my last. :p If I do have some time, I may start another story, but I will wait and see about that. Thanks to all those who found the time to post Here!
