Stuart MacGill announces retirement.

I personally think that Australia shouldn't be trying too hard in finding a new Warne. Casson, the last time I saw his stats, averaged in the 40's with the ball I think, and he gets a test call! I think they're being a tad bit too desperate here.

They should just back their strength's and go with a four-pronged seam attack. Symonds and Clarke can do the job if they want to slow things down.

He can bat, MacGill can't. Casson made a ton and picked up a 5 for in the Pura Cup final IIRC.

Gotta give the youngster a go. He had a good back end in the Pura cup including wickets in the final. He'll get the ultimate test against India, if he stands up we are onto something if not back to the drawing boards.

Testing him on sub continnet is not agood idea :noway we need WARNEY :D

Some of MacGill's deliveries in this series have been so bad they would have been hit for six by park batsmen and his dodgy hand and knee have continued caused him problems.
What an impartial reporter...

Sad to see him go without fulfilling his potential, I guess it's down to whether they want to breed Casson as a youngster, or perhaps they'll go for the older and more in form Bryce McGain?

I hope that Casson doesn't get selected because it'll be a BIG mistake. I've seen him bowl and definately is as good as a bowler averaging in the 40's. He doesn't look threatening and he is the type of bowler that any International batsman would feast on.

I personally think Michael Clarke should be given more opportunities as a bowler in Test Cricket. His a better bowler then Casson is, that is for sure!

If he were to get selected then he'd be the worst cricketer I've seen to ever represent Australia in International cricket.

Should also drop Johnson for Bollinger aswell.

Totally agree. Drop Johnson while we're at it. This would be much better:

Lee
Clark
Bracken/Bollinger
Hilfenhaus

There's something for the future, and something for the now. I can't imagine what would happen when Lee retires, Australian cricket will descend into mediocrity.

Katich, Clarke and D. Hussey can all bowl spin.

johnson is better than bracken and bollinger

and Warne has said he is willing to come back if aussie is desperate for the ashes in 09

Johnson is a far better bowler than Bollinger, i agree that Bracken is more economical and a better ODI bowler but i would take Johnson over bracken in tests most days of the week if not all

Johnson bowls fast. That's it. Even Lee had more than that when he was a débutante.

Bracken has a thousand more ways to get batsmen out and Bollinger is far more threatening with a new ball. They don't actually have Bracken in the squad, but they do have Noffke, who has risen out of an injury riddled career to produce elite form with both bat and ball.

Johnson is a left arm quick thats always gunna cause problems with batsman and every now and then if he's lucky he'll swing it, a much bigger threat imo

Andrew Symonds will take over now as spinner.
