TAOC Discussion

Hope we get to see this video soon! Can't wait to see the new engine's graphics and capability for gameplay! The older videos had smooth graphics and this surely will be sooo good! :D

I've been working on a new updated feature list, which I feel is well overdue, given the old one was done several years ago and things have been added/changed a fair bit since then.

It will also go into more detail on specific features, like bowling and batting.

Hope I can release this soon. In the meantime, I've been tweaking the heck outta the bowling and it's really coming along amazingly I must say. I could have finished it earlier but I wanted to leave no stone unturned, so it's dragged on a bit longer than I had hoped.

Here's a teaser - Spinners also now have a 'power bar' which will allow you to adjust the pace/flight of the delivery as well as the spin type, which is unprecedented in any cricket game to date. Drift has also been completed, so the variations of spin bowling is now huge and quite brilliant to control. I've been having heaps of fun with the bowling I must say. Batting well is not going to be easy, I can tell you that. Reading the spin will be pretty important.

Great news to hear!
Reading the spin? How do the batsmen read the spin in the game? are wrist movements accurate?

I've touched on this before, but batsmen will have stats for 'reading the play' which will help them arrive at a 'best guess' prediction of what they think the ball might do. Whether you as a player trust this is another story. Obviously you would be more inclined to trust a better batsman, like Ponting for example, over a lower order batsman like Peter Siddle.

This 'prediction' would be reflected in some kind of icon that the batsman sees.

The algorithm that determines the accuracy of the prediction is primarily based on the batsman's skill but other factors such as stamina/tiredness/focus and morale/confidence will also come into it.

so when the AI starts to bowl in a ball, an icon pops up indicating the type of delivery it might be and this indication varies for different batsmen.Real cool feature!!

Pretty much, yeah, in a nutshell. This can be turned off in the options if you like. Also the icon will probably be similar to the spinning 3D ball icon the bowler uses when he bowls, though will be more subtle and not as conspicuous as the bowling version.

I think I just jizzed myself :laugh

Argh. Can't wait!

now thats much better PR work :p

Love the new feautre.. keep them coming :)

That's a great feature LM! That makes bowling so much fun like you said! Creating our own variations in game other than using the same old deliveries! :D

I have one question. You see one thing which has made Cricket games unrealistic till now is a part of the fielding system. No I'm not talking about how fast the fielders run or how they catch the ball but rather how they throw it.

If you look at them, you will always notice that the receiver stands near the stumps and magically the fielder's throw, no matter where he is on the ground, always reaches that exact spot. Also if that weren't bad enough, overthrows are visualized in game as the bowler or wicketkeeper missing the ball coming to the stumps.

That is something which I have found to be not realistic. Because as we have seen sometimes, fielder throws go off a bit wide sometimes which can make the big difference between a run out and a safe batsman. The receiver would have to run away from the stumps to catch the ball and attempt a run out from a distance which we always know, is never accurate sometimes.

I have played only BLIC 2005, EA 05 and 07 till now so I dunno if Ashes Cricket is the same. I think there might have been many others who would have pointed this out before me so sorry if you have heard this enough.

It would be good if you are implementing this level of realism in the game. However this is just a suggestion and you are already on a tight stretch regarding your free time. Just wanted to point this out. :)

Ashes Cricket has this feature where throws are of variable accuracy.

Awesome update, I hope this'll be playable on my laptop :banana2 .

There will be a lot of different performance options that can be turned on or off, so you should definitely be able to play it, just not with the greatest graphics and effects.

Update on the bowling: Last night I added early dip and extra bounce for topspinners and extra flight/bounce for backspinning deliveries all used in conjunction with the above mentioned power bar. This is really cool as there's so much more uncertainty now when playing against spinners.

I can't wait to show you guys a video of this stuff...

All good man - I'm no graphics whore.

If the game really is how good you say it is, the players can be stick men for all I care :D .
