Tendulkar's career seems to be over...

Cream always rises to the top.

I'm likely Sachin will play again, it's just a question of wheather he'll ever be near his best again.

For world cricket's sake I hope he does.

average should not be the only the criteria for deciding a player.
If that is so ganguly's average is better than ever before since after the 2003 world cup.
Tendulkar is 17th in the odi rankings and
13th in tests.
So your a rankings man and not a stats man. Do you see that Kallis is higher than Lara? Is Kallis better?! NO!!! Tendulkar's rating will obviously drop if he isn't playing any cricket! Strauss,Trescothick, Chanderpaul are higher than Tendulkar. Are they better? NO! The only person that you can say is better than Tendulkar is Lara. Dravid is the most reliable batsmen in the world.
1-Tendulkar
2-Lara
3-Dravid
4-Kallis
5-Ponting
6-Inzamam

Get your facts straight. Most persons on this forum will agree with me. The positions of these batsmen may change but they should surely still be the top 6.

Exactly.

Right now, Lara is better than Tendulkar! But I am sure Sachin would regain it back soon when he comes back!

If he is anything like his former self.

Also i wouldn't expect Sachin to play in everygame.

In recent times, Kallis is well deserved of his ranking. If he were to build a record better than Lara's what would you say then?

Past 20 matches...
J H Kallis 35 innings 11 50s 9 100s, 2184 @ 80.89
R Dravid 31 innings 9 50s 5 100s, 1944 @ 74.77

By contrast
B C Lara 36 innings 5 50s 9 100s 2384 @ 68.11
R T Ponting 37 innings 7 50s 4 100s 1848 @ 59.61
Inzamam-Ul-Haq 35 innings 8 50s 6 100s 1691 @ 56.37
S R Tendulkar 33 innings 7 50s 3 100s, 1423 @ 50.82

Now of course the interesting thing is that not everyone manages 20 matches in the same amount of time. Both Tendulkar and Inzamam go back to 2002 for their 20th most recent Test. Lara, Ponting and Dravid all date back to the later stages of 2003, while Kallis has managed 20 matches in 2004 and 2005 alone. So from a second perspective, Kallis is not only the best performing batsmen of the past couple of years, he is also turning up to more games, hence he is extra reliable.

I always marvel at the value of accumulative players such as Dravid or Kallis, versus aggressors like Lara or Ponting. Especially Lara, compared with either Kallis or Dravid, he's done effectively the same job, but scores a fair bit quicker. On average 30% quicker, in fact.

In the end, once you realise that all good batsmen are over-rated, it becomes much easier to discuss their value. Some guys can squeeze runs from the greenest or dustiest pitches, while others frequently rip a game apart in a matter of hours. It doesn't necessarily mean you should put them on a pedastal forever.

not neccesarily more reliable, but have played more tests, as Ponting hasn't missed many.

Incredible stats for Kallis though.

For Strauss fans.
Yes, I do think Strauss is an amazingly good player, and the whole Langer-Strauss thing is amazing, they are so alike at times.

But my point was for the same number of Tests and JK is easily killing his opposition.

I just wish I was around on Sunday to see the tour match.

Right now the person who is on top is Lara, then proberly Kallis, Dravid, Flintoff and Ponting. Tendulkars gone down the rankings becuase he has'nt played cricket and has a tennis-elbow injury, some people on another forum is saying Inzaman-ul-haq is the best in the world today, the best in the world in this era, and the second best cricket legend behind Don bradman, which is totel bulls**t.

Was it a Pakistani forum?

Inzamam is a legendary batsman no doubt! But the best in the world after Bradman? Gimme a break!

As great ppl put it :
Class is permanent but from is temporary.

After Bradman, definatley it is gavaskar and after him its tendulkar.
Inzi may rank in the top 10 of the all time list but he's definately not the new age bradman.

Graeme Pollock?

He averaged mid 60s iirc.

Barry Richards would be up their was it not for the Apartheid.

There are quite a few players between Tendulkar and Bradman, actually.

It's ment to be a Indian sport topic based forum, I just found it yesterday. I havent replied to it, but thier is two people called JH and Champion who are mad about Inzy, and think the world to him. http://www.forumhub.com/indsports/, click on this link and scroll up and down on cricket related issues, starting from the 29th of september.

Agreed but inzi is definately not the world's best is he ? ;)

He isn't the worlds best, nore is a legend, but Inzy is one of pakistani finest cricketers ever produced.
