Test Cricket tweak

It was a very good game of cricket although ended up on the losing side but certainly had all the ups and downs as in a thriller. Looking back at the game I suppose I could have restricted the CPU to around 250, I did not need to take too many risks when batting. Also in the first 15 overs I was a bit too slow, I only scored 42 runs in the first 15 losing 1 wicket. If I had 60+ on the board I could have got home fairly early. Well its the first time I am trying these files anyway. The turning point was Matthew Hayden playing on to one of the deliveries(wasnt it your idea Jonah, truly I was gutted) when he was blasting runs all over the park, the next probably the run out of Martyn and Symonds who were looking very good and the bloody CPU who bowled 12 overs for Blackwell. Harmison and Anderson equally were good but it was Blackwell who bamboozled the batsmen. I saved the game at 35th over, went back in to see Blackwell who had bowled 10-1-50-2 come on to bowl again. He then bowled couple more overs giving away only 5 runs at a crucial time. I have named A. Mcgrath as the MOM for this game. I would long to have games like these and the thanks should go to you guys who tested and opined the batting files were very much bang on.

Ravi,

how about incresing no. of edges a bit? I had almost none in my game..
As for losing the games it's actually nice to have a strong cpu opponent..that will make winning more satisfying..I've lost both the games but it was great challenge & fun..

Ravi , I have not recieved any files after I posted my latest post.Does the new files make much difference.

And Jonah , please mail me that ball to [email protected]

Or mani can you forward that mail which contains the new ball to me please

Sounds a great game Ravi..go England!! (if only we could beat the Aussies in reality :( ).
The good thing is that although you lost, you can think back to what you could've done better, i.e. different bowlers, quicker scoring etc. It just begs to be tried again :) .
And yes, that cpu/bowler bug is a real pain...happened to me with Akhtar  ...

Here is a nicely setup game, SA(me) v Pak on green pitch, overcast weather. I decided to bat first this time. Match was off to a sensational start as Smith edged first ball from Shoaib to first slip. Ball seemed to have bounced on it's way but Smith had to walk. In the same over, Shoaib keeping is reputation bowled one bouncer that went above batsman and keeper and another wide down the legside. Gibbs and Rudolph added 58 before gibbs was runout. Runrate was around 5 with some more byes and wides adding to the total, Shoaib the major contributor. Rudolph and Dippenaar were soon out and at half way stage SA were struggling at 104/4. Good bowling from Malik, Razzaq and Azhar slowing the runrate. Kallis, Boucher then started rebuilding, played some good strokes in the partnership of 51 when Kallis was narrowly runout going for 2nd. Boucher kept going with the lower order contributing some runs. SA were finally owled out for 256 in 49th over not a bad score from 104/4 in 25th. 42 extras made a decent addition.
Let's see how cpu chases this target..

You might be right, we might want to increase the edges a bit more at the top of the order. There are edges available later in the inning I noticed when I played the game but they didnt carry. Probably we can induce more edges but still get the CPU to play its full 50 overs. I guess you were refering to the edges when CPU bats right, Shailesh.

Also the byes have been cut down in the update I sent to Jonah, can send those to you guys as well.

Amber, I have made some more tweaks to the Bowling and Batting setup files. The CPU has been made more judicious when running and the runouts have been cut down. The ball bounce on green pitches has also been cut down for batting setup files. Will send those to you guys later.

A disciplined performance by SA to win the match by 23 runs. Although the margin is fairly close, surprisingly cpu kind of 'gave up' after losing 6 for 128 - very few aggressive shots were played, normal deliveries were blocked. hmm looks like surviving whole 50 overs was the aim (and not fixing ;) )? cant complain much though as I think it's still better than cpu getting all out in 30 overs.

not much to choose between 2 teams for most of the duration..I took some risks in last 15 overs and luckily it paid off. My first win over cpu..very satisfying :)

SA Pak
78/3 - 15 - 64/2
104/4 - 25 - 108/4
167/6 - 35 - 154/6
256/10- 50 - 233/9

Guys, for next matches I suggest let's test by batting first on other types of wickets..

Ravi, right about the edges..just a bit more for cpu batting. other than that configs are  almost like playing a different game :)

Good stuff Shailesh, your first win. Infact you might have bowled well to restrict CPU to 233 on a green wicket. I am of the opinion if South Africa can put 250+ on the board on a green wicket it deserves to win against any opposition but for the OZs. Way to go, you seem to have got a hang of both batting and bowling. I also registered by first ever win though the opponent wasnt very good, but hey it still was a convincing win bring on England now.

I out and out attacked Zimbabwe as the conditions were overcast on a normal pitch. I was expensive but attacking paid off as it was Zimbabwe I was playing against and Lee got 5 for. I threw pretty much all the wickets away when it came to chasing. Only Gilchrist was the only one to be bowled of a good ball, it pitched on middle stump I shaped to play a straight drive missed the bat by not much and crashed on to the off stump. I took it a little easy and tried few innovative shots which at times didnt pay off. Nevertheless I still won my first ever game and this is just a start.

Shailesh, I see you got few runouts with CPU batting. That is going to go now so the CPU next time around might end up chasing that total of yours. Also you did the match details editor and you seem to have some expertise reading and altering the hex values in the saved games. Is it possible for you to read the scores using which we can store in Access database and create a Statistics database(history of scores).

Ravi,

yes it was a combination of bowling the right line to right fields..and some strategy like I bowled all 10 overs from Pollock at start. btw have you noticed this cpu behaviour where it goes so defensive? I had some areas open but it refused to take any risks..must be because of early wickets though combined with aim of lasting 50 overs. Though I was anticipating an attack anytime in last few overs ;)
I'm sure the configs are going to be even more enjoyable now that byes, run out problem is fixed.

Your idea about database sounds interesting..what exactly are you looking for? one problem we have is that you can't save a game when inning/match is over (unless it's a tournament) ..so we are going to end up with incomplete stats :(

What you say is right, if the games arent saved or if not a tournment then keeping statistics simply cant be done. Not sure how we can get over this anyways this isnt the current issue though.

I have tried to tweak the CPU to be a little more smarter when chasing total, not sure if it comes off. I will give it a try and see if it works. Jonah has indeed confirmed the ball going over the keeper once in a while on the green wickets are fixed. I will send those out to you once I am convinced the CPU might chase better.

If your looking to save your statistics. A few years ago, well about 6 to be exact. Daniel Flower released an excel spreadsheet to keep track of stats.

You may want to create a spreadsheet. I remember using that spreadsheet for a bunch of matches in Cricket 97, ATE and its not that hard to create a spreadsheet either.

Ravi..... you mentioned in a thread about playing Cricket 2002 online... I am more than willing to try this out. Better yet I already know how to play Cricket 97 online for free :D

So I see both you guys have registered your first win with these configs?
I'm lagging behind....I'm going to have another go at Pakistan later :D ...(maybe wait for the new configs...).
