The Apple Thread

Should move to Germany and go driving on the autobahns :p

I want to go there one day. Go to Germany, hire a nice car and got nuts. However, just over half of the autobahn does have a speed limit. The rest of it has a advised speed limit of about 130kph :D How much fun would that be? I wish NZ would follow the Germans in this regard. Just imagine going down SH1 at whatever speed you want. I reckon that would solve traffic jams.

I'm getting off topic for this thread. Sorry.....

Lockscreen and first page

Huh that's weird. On my phone there isn't the labels for the dock

I had the same lockscreen. I'm liking that HTC clock and weather widget.

I unjailbroke my phone. It was real sluggish 'cause of all the stuff I had installed on it and it was easier to restore than to sift through all the add ons. I might jailbreak again 'cause I'm bored of Apple's UI.

What features Apple have added for Ipad 2?

It's thinner, they've added two cameras and they've put in a faster A5 chip. Those are the main things.

Otherwise known as, "if you buy the 2nd rather than a much cheaper original refurbished, you're silly!"

Anyone had a look at the stuff Apple announced today? Looks pretty good :D

iOS5 looks like a big improvement over what Apple already have. Much more convenient and the new features seem pretty good.

Most of the features of OSX Lion have already been announced so there wasn't any surprises there.

The iCloud and iTunes Match sound pretty good too. iCloud is basically similar to what's already out there, i.e. dropbox and all the other cloud storage. The iTunes thing is really interesting though. It scans your library and matches the songs there to ones in their store. For $25 a year you can then access all these songs you have in your library that match up to the iTunes store anywhere on your iOS devices. It comes up under purchased music. This seems like a rather amazing deal for people like me who have 160GB of music from various sources. It basically legitimizes all this music (at least the ones they have in the store) by turning it into their own music. It'll be interesting to see if they have anything to do with checking whether a song is purchased legally or not - it'd be rather hard to check I'd imagine.

Finally the fuss to link iPhone with PC is over. Ironically, doesn't matter to me. I have a 2g iphone but still doesn't matter, I'm happy with any apple releases. About time they should leak some iphone 5 pics as well.

They'll have another conference thingy later in the year to show off the next version of the iPhone probably

Your iPhone won't be able to upgrade to the new iOS anyway :p

I'll get an iphone 4, at least. Succumbing to get one so bad.

I forgot that the Apple keynote was today. I busy watching the E3 press conferences. I watched through some of the keynote on the Apple site and was happy with what I saw.

Notification Center for iOS 5 announced -- Engadget

Great to see they've improved notifications. It looks like the Mobile Notifier you can get if you jailbreak your phone. Probably did take a few things from it considering Apple hired the Mobile Notifier developer.

Apple turns iOS 'PC Free' with OTA updates and wireless sync -- Engadget

Nice feature to sync everything over Wi-Fi. I was wondering how long it would take to download an update OTA but since they'll be delta updates, it's not so bad.

Apple unveils iMessage, its BBM competitor, at WWDC -- Engadget

I've never used BBM but I can see myself using this since most of my friends have iOS devices. It'll save me a few texts.

People have been clamouring for a physical shutter button and now they've got one in the form of the increase volume button. Smart.

It'll probably be just before iOS 5 is released.

I'm mostly looking forward to having all my music backed up in one way or another in the cloud, for only USD$25 a year. Pretty sure I can afford that :p

I think I might completely restore my mac and iPhone when Lion and iOS5 come out to make it all pristine and new, so it can run a bit better. Having said that, I'm thinking of buying the next iPhone anyway.

The thing with iMessage is that I have 5000 texts to Vodafone phones anyway and I use about 500 of them a month :p Will be useful for the people who use iPhones on Telecom but I only have one friend who does that...

Syncing over wifi will be incredibly useful though.

I don't have a Mac so that's why I skipped over the OS X Lion part of the keynote :p

Yea, I'll be going for the next iPhone once my contract expires in Jan. Although that does depend on how good it is and how much it costs.

The US$25 was only for iTunes Match. You can backup and have your data pushed to your iOS device for free. You get 5GB worth of storage and that quota doesn't count your music, videos, books, or photos.

Yea I don't really need that 5gb though. I want the iTunes match part :p

I have Dropbox which syncs between my desktop and my mac. I don't know if iCloud syncs to Windows pcs as well. 5GB isn't really enough to store all my photos and I dunno what else I'd put in there.

The next iPhone is rumoured to just be a small jump, like the 3G->3GS. Still, seeing as I have a 3GS at the moment it might be worth it. And I can 'sell' the 3GS to my sister or my parents I suppose. It's only 6 months old...

Photo's don't count toward the 5GB data. So you could have more than 5GB of photos.
