The Apple Thread

If it was an "upgrade" people would have been happy. What's the point of having 2 iPads? :p
Apple should offer to take back the older iPads and give people the shiny new version of it, for probably half the cost. (It's still equally profitable for them)

I am writing this from my iPad 2. My first ever Apple product and I must say I am using it a lot more than I had expected. You can just lie down and surf the net and/or watch videos and play games.

Ofcourse it does not replace my laptop, but is certainly more mobile or convenient to use.

There are a few drawbacks that I wish to point out. It does not play flash (there are apps for youtube, DM, etc. but cant seem to play embedded stuff on websites). It is very difficult to take pictures. The size does not suit point and shoot - it feels really weird.

So bottomline is while I am enjoying using it, I do end up going back to my desktop or laptop.

High time I don't screw up anything else. My iPhone ran out of memory and i've had a buttload of pictures and music files on it (NS). Battery was low the other night and I thought I'd charge it up the next morning but it dropped dead. It won't boot. It won't recognize. The last time i saw on iTunes the memory was too low. Like 120 mb or something. I fear a restore but it will undo all my music stuff.

Yet to try something else out, but hard to not panic when these things happen.

Won't all the songs be in your iTunes anyway so you can just restore it?

No, not the songs. Music projects. Nanostudio.

Adding to the irony, the PC i've the backup has it's motherboard faulty.

So it's all added to the problem. If I have to restore it'll be brand new and i'll be thrown back to square one. Definitely not what's on my mind.

Oh ok. I've heard of that program before, thought about trying it out but realised that I'm too lazy to :p

Driving me nuts though. I badly wanna getting back to working on it :P

oh, apple. For once they can't have a normal way to read the phone on your PC. sick itunes. lol.

Sorry to say this, but all the stuff on your phone is probably toast. A few months ago when I was flying back from India I made the mistake of turning off my phone. When I turned it back on it showed the connect to iTunes sign. And of course iTunes did not recognize it. After a lot of massaging I was finally able to get the phone to restore but lost pretty much everything on it that I hadn't backed up (phone numbers, photos, music, etc.).

iTunes is honestly the shittiest piece of software I've had forced down my throat. For all the iPhone's benefits in usability, iTunes makes the the thing completely ridiculous to synchronize. In fact, I've given up on synchronizing my iPod Touch with a computer any more because every time I connect it, it wants me to set it up as a new device (thus erasing everything).

hmm, I don't know why that keeps happening. I haven't had any of those issues with iTunes, granted I have worked mostly on a mac for the last ~2 years or so. But even before that...it has generally been OK.

I wish iOS devices could be a just a little more independent now. I think these days they are replacing computers more and more, and if we were able to manage music and photos and stuff directly on the device, it would be so much better. I hate syncing...If I want to download a song off a website, or download a youtube video I should be able to do it right on the iPhone/iPad. Going on my computer, importing it to itunes, syncing... it is just such a clunky process.

Well you can already buy music on the iOS device. I guess they're purposely making iTunes a POS so that people move further away from illegal music/ripping CDs by just buying it from the device. Since getting my new iPod Touch and having issues with syncing, I've just resorted to buying it from the device.

I remember that my first ever MP3 player--the Creative Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra back in around 2002/03 had the ability to manage the music library on the device. In fact, the music was actually better managed on the device since Creative's sync software stunk (although it wasn't trying to be as flashy as iTunes).

It's quite a simple procedure. The benefits aren't as big for the iPad as for the iPhone or iPod Touch yet though.

I'm thinking about jailbreaking my iPhone. The warranty expired in Jan so I might as well.
