Just love love love love the fact that Lyons fumbled the run out and had no review left for the LB. Really some lovely juicy icing on the cake!

Yes Gary you can bowl but you are also a bit of a c@nt

Australia have no one but themselves to blame. Dropped catches, lost review, and bad bowling at the end.

Stokes is in a purple patch right now and everything he touches is turning to gold. Outstanding innings nonetheless. Ralllied brilliantly with the tail. Leach was impressive too to survive 3 overs in that pressure cooker situation.

Having said that, unfortunately Australia would think that an umpiring error has robbed them off of a victory. And this argument would overshadow Stokes' brilliance.

In fairness, if a decision is clearly wrong (not umpire's call), the 3rd umpire should have the power to overturn it.

Stoke's innings proved why test cricket is the greatest sport there ever has been. Long may it survive!

This would effectively mean a review for everything. Teams should just learn to be more careful with using them.

Exactly that. Should never have spunked their review with a ball that obviously pitched outside. Considering who the umpire was, they only have themselves to blame.

Even when a batsman is wrongfully given out/not out? Kinda defeats the purpose of DRS then which was implemented to weed out wrong decisions.

Was designed to give teams an insurance policy against shockers, not speculative trys to ones outside leg[DOUBLEPOST=1566756980][/DOUBLEPOST]Picked a great day to take my little one to Whipsnade. Didn’t see a ball.

By a miracle though I finally got decent enough 4G by the Asian Elephants to follow the winning runs on cricinfo ha ha

Which is why I believe umpires should be more willing to refer close LBW calls just like contentious catches with the same system of soft signal. This ensures that the initial decision of the umpire still holds some power if the final verdict is umpire’s call, while ensuring that the truly abysmal calls do not occur.

The only reason why the Aussies are being mocked now is because they wasted their review out of desperation. What if their review had been used up on a fairly close lbw decision where the ball misses by a few millimetres or a catch where there is no conclusive evidence despite a small spike? This is not the first time I have suggested the above process either. It will lead to much less pressure on umpires and fewer errors in the future.

Coming back to the game, I think England clearly deserved this victory. They were horrendous with the bat in the first innings under conditions that clearly did not favour bowlers massively, but they batted well with proper test batting in their second innings unlike the Aussies who underperformed in both of their innings. Stokes was monumental with both bat and ball, to come back with such fierce spirit after a torrid first innings performance from him shows incredible character. He is one player who should certainly be one of the frontline candidates for the inevitable captaincy role that will become vacant soon.
