Due to lack of interaction :p the interactive :D Ashes will go ahead as a normal story..we'll go straight to Lords for day 1

1st Test at Lords - Day 1

England won the toss and decided to bat first. No surprises in playing xi for either team.

The first test is off to a sensational start as Trescothick edged very first ball over the slips..but was out caught in 3rd slip off the next ball. new man Butcher made a nervous start as McGrath beat him twice in the same over..

One wonders if it's looking all to familiar for our England fans ;)

England are in deep trouble as Australia well and truly dominated the morning session. At lunch England are struggling at 40 for 5 much to the disappointment of the home fans.

McGrath took 5 for 23 as Englad were bowled out for 90 just before tea on day 1. Thorpe made a defiant 39 (only score in double digits apart from extras) but unfortunately no one else managed to provide a good support. Plenty of work ahead for England bowlers then, can they bring England back in the game?

Nah - not going to read this - will stick to S_Harmison's version - England have a chance of winning something there :D

Excellent bowling Shailesh. A good start to the series.

End of day 1

Australia managed to take only a narrow lead as Hoggard inspired a superb performance in the field for England. Australia were all out for just 98 as we saw 20 wickets falling on first day. Just like in England's inning none of the top order batsmen were able to produce a big inning, except for Martyn who looked classy in his 34. There was reasonable doubt in couple of lbw decisions but overall it was a good fightback by England.
