The Block(er)Chain Draft

The greatest left-arm pacer of all time in my opinion, Wasim Akram, is the first bowler i'll pick

Test stats: 563 wickets @ 21.64 (29 5WI, best 8/24) in 124 matches
:bwl: Bowling VARP (seam):  106.66%

First-class stats: 835 wickets @ 20.85 (42 5WI, best 8/24) in 189 matches

I've already grabbed statistically the best spinner in Test history and statistically the best left-arm seamer in Test history, so it's about time I got statistically the best right-arm seamer in Test history. His VARP of +106% is unique among Test seamers with over 100 Test wickets, even standing above such freakish performers as Lohmann and Barnes. It is customary to chase all the best available batsmen in a draft like this, but I'm confident in my bowling-first approach to bring in the results. I have three-fifths of my bowling attack, and so far it's gone completely to plan.

Ponting...damn, I wanted to keep the opening partnership of Greenidge and Haynes for my squad. I don't think Ponting (Test debut 1995) or Greenidge (last Test 1991) or Haynes (last Test 1994) would even have played in an FC match. No worries though, because Ponting gives me one of the best openers to play the game, Matthew Hayden. I think that Haydos is a great opening partner to Greenidge, and century stands for no loss will be almost the norm in my team.

Gutted. Murali was about to be my next pick. I guess I'll just have to go with...

:aus: :bwl: Shane Warne

Test stats: 708 wickets @ 25.41 (37 5WI, best 8/71) in 145 matches
:bwl: Bowling VARP (spin):  69.04%

First-class stats: 1,319 wickets @ 26.11 (69 5WI, best 8/71) in 301 matches

So I was hoping to pick up the number two all-time spinner to go with the number one all-time spinner I've got already, but as I can't get him I guess I'll pick up his greatest rival: Shane Warne. This will have the advantage of a little bit of extra chemistry in my attack, as Warne and McGrath were a famous duo who have huge experience of having bowled together. Very happy with the first four members of my bowling attack, and I'll probably end up using my break to get the fifth if we're not in a position to pick him without it next time around.
